SWINDON Town Ladies let a one-goal lead slip but were still able to claim an impressive point following a 1-1 draw away at previously unbeaten Chichester City.

Skipper Chyna Collings gave the Robins the lead in the second half after Georgia Walters missed an earlier penalty, but the lead was soon eradicated after Kally Ambler scrambled home a low drive.

The visitors were on the offensive from the off as Walters soon brought City keeper Hannah McNamara into action, but a quick City throw soon caught Town unprepared, allowing Jenna Fowlie to get a shot off which Robyn Levett in the Town’s goal did well to push the ball clear.

Play was evenly contested and a long clearance from the City defence put Abbey Shrubb clear but Town keeper Levett was equal to it again. Michelle Rich and Collings set up Walters but her shot was saved and then again Walters found space to shoot but her shot was wide of the target.

Town started the second half on the attack and Beth Thompson tested McNamara in the City goal. At the other end Shrubb tried a shot from distance and then Alice Smith did well to block the same player’s strong drive.

City began to have a good spell but Rich and Sam Quinn, in the centre of Town’s defence, held firm.

Swindon’s big chance came in the 57th minute as Walters was fouled in the box but her penalty was saved by City keeper Hannah McNamara who dived smartly to her left.

Seven minutes later Town did take the lead. Following a Walters corner the ball fell to Chyna Collings who coolly tucked it into the corner of the net.

Chichester’s Lauren Cheshire carried the ball clear of Town’s defence but her final shot flew over the crossbar.

In the 77th minute the sides were level when substitute Ambler scored with a low drive. Kristy Willett had a chance to put the home side in front following a mix up in the Town’s defence but she scooped her shot wide.

In the dying minutes Levett confidently held Lauren Cheshire rising shot to secure a well-deserved point.
