Jackett and his Wolves ready to cope with favourites tag

Swindon Advertiser: Kenny Jackett Kenny Jackett

WOLVES boss Kenny Jackett believes his side are ready to cope with a Swindon side primed to gun down the league leaders.

The men from Molineux are searching for a club record ninth straight win this evening, with their run of success taking them to the top of League One in recent weeks.

Jackett expects Swindon, along with any side Wolves face in the coming weeks, to find new levels of motivation when they face the table toppers but insisted his side will cope with the pressure their lofty position brings.

“That’s where we are in this division and it’s not something we should be frightened of but we should be aware of it, realise there will be a high level of motivation from the Swindon players and do our best to overcome it,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to the game, as we should be with our position in the league and the opportunity we have.

“But in no way do we underestimate the size of the task.

“We take confidence out of what we’ve done but we won’t take anything else – there won’t be any complacency.

“We’ll know that anything we get at Swindon, we’ll have to earn and work very hard for."

Wolves came out 3-2 winners when the two sides met in the Black Country earlier in the season, although Swindon came away with most of the plaudits following a terrific performance which impressed Jackett.

“Yes, it was a cracking game – we won 3-2 but both teams had many more chances than goals they scored,” the Wolves boss said.

“It was a situation where we went flat out and we just scored more than them.

“There were lots of chances at both ends in what was an excellent game.

“Ryan Mason had seven shots that day which is a very high total for one individual.

“They play good football and have some very good midfield players in particular.

“Similar to Port Vale and Walsall, they’ll be trying hard for that sprint finish to get themselves into that sixth spot.

“I think they will be thinking that above that is too far for them but they will still be thinking of the play-offs and a good run now can get them into the play-offs.”

In defiance of all logic, I think we might get something from tonight, not because we're playing particularly well but just because Wolves have to end their winning streak at some point. Why not tonight? Sometimes things don't go the way you think they will, I remember Aldershot away a few seasons ago when we could have secured promotion but ended up playing poorly and getting beaten. Stranger things have happened.

As at Aldershot, let's hope a few of the Wolves players went out on the p*ss on Saturday night and get dropped by their hot-headed manager for tonight's game!

I dont believe we are motivated to beat them and this is reverse psychology by Jackett.Even so we should have beaten them at Wolves earlier in the season.Unfortunately I think they will score a few goals against us this evening

Shame we couldn't have got something from the away fixture - great stadium, fantastic atmosphere and we played some really good football (although conceded some sloppy goals). Wolverhampton not the friendliest of places though, and could see them causing some aggro in large numbers tonight.

Kenny J, very experienced manager who has a record of fielding robust sides. He is obviously doing something very well as they are seeking their ninth straight win, on route to promotion. I quite expect him to use his subs in a tactical manner to ensure the win and maximize his goal difference. I really cannot in all reality see us winning this one, especially given the diabolical second half on Saturday. Sorry chaps but that is the truth, no rose tinted here. If ever we have needed leader that could inspire the near on impossible then now is that time. The way our luck is running,if they got two straight reds and we had three penalties, we would still lose by the odd goal, because that it seems is our luck right now, LOL. That said I hope we put up a decent show.

We didn't win at their place because we gave them a 2 goal start - do the same tonight and "we're doomed laddie, doomed I tell you" :)

84 isn't it funny on these forums you post a statement of absolute cast iron fact that cannot be argued and yet the minus muppets still press the gladiator thumbs down.
We gave them a two goal start at their place and then decided to start playing. Thing is with 3k support tonight they'll be far more up for it than us because promotion is within their grasp whereas the best we can hope for is mid table mediocrity.

In what way is it mediocre for us to be mid-table?
.
Criticising the performances and the manager is one thing but I'd say us being mid-table is a rather excellent result - certainly more so than some of our other results recently!

Because finishing in mid table is just that isn't it? It's neither here nor here good or bad but all things considered and with the players we've got ills concede we've probably over achieved if we finish on or about half way.

Haha, cheers Jock, was thinking the same. Not to worry, won't bother me. City next, hoping for good weather so J can enjoy a few ciders in the sunshine before getting depressed down at Ashton gate! Never know, I could be totally wrong, but can't see us winning again this season. All the fight's gone out of us. Playing when you're already 3-0 down is no good to anyone, and we've seen it time and again, we only seem to up our game when it's too late. Off to bed, tomorrow's another day...

I really do hate to say, by I did get that about right, even down to the subs, I only wish I had been proven wrong.

Still, _"work in progress" are we Mr Cooper, aka Charisma, Charisma Cooper, why Charisma, well he hasn't got any, Funny how at the beginning of the season after winning well it was never mentioned we are "work in progress".
