MARK Cooper will blood plenty of youth in the final weeks of the season as he prepares Swindon Town for 2014/15.

Cooper handed first-year scholar Will Randall a place on the substitutes’ bench for the midweek defeat to Wolves at the County Ground and has previously given a number of other youth team players - Matty Jones, Liam Walsh and Ryan Wood - the experience of being part of the first-team squad on a matchday this term.

The Robins boss intends to continue giving the youngsters a chance as the current campaign reaches a climax, with one eye on squad development.

“I think we have to because we need to find out about the younger players as I don’t think the age of our squad is going to get any older,” he said. “If anything it will get considerably younger and if the supporters are patient it could be exciting times ahead for the football club.

“I think there will be more young players featuring, Will will be featuring again on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Cooper said he will consider bringing back the youngest element of the Town squad currently out on loan as and when Swindon are in his words “safe”.

Miles Storey, Connor Waldon, Aaron Oakley and Alex Ferguson are all enjoying gametime elsewhere at present, and Cooper said: “We’re talking about getting ourselves safe and once we are safe then we might (bring them back).

“We still have a duty of competition and want to put out the strongest teams we can but we might bring one or two of them in.

“Connor is doing well, although it’s a big jump for him to come from that right into our first team, but he’s one we will.”

Second-year scholar Jones is out on loan at Swindon Supermarine and Cooper stressed that decisions would be made on his future, as well as those of Salvyn Kisitu, Walsh and Curtis Da Costa, soon.

“Matt’s got a great left foot and he’s one ending his second year of his scholarship and he’s one we need to decide whether or not to keep them as professionals,” he said.

“We have people watching him and as soon as there’s a time when we’re not playing and we are I will go up there.”
