EIGHT MEMBERS from Westlecot Indoor Club will be competing in the Bristol Open Singles Tournament at Ashton Vale tomorrow.

Ian Jefferies, Dennis Holborow, Lawence Smith, Gary Jackson, Neil Smith, his two daughters Lucy and Katy plus Mike Titcombe are all contesting this latest tournament on the nationalplanetbowls.com singles circuit.

In round one Jefferies and Holborow have been drawn against each other, Lawrence Smith meets Welshman Tommy Nutt (Islwyn, Gwent), Jackson faces Michael Squires (East Dorset), while Titcombe plays former England junior international Ben Paulley (Bournemouth).

Lucy Smith is drawn against John Hatzer (Coventry) in the first round while her younger sister Katy has to play Nick Revell (Five Rivers, Salisbury), winner of this season’s Camberley Open Singles in early February. And their father Neil Smith, who won the planetbowls Ipswich Open a fortnight ago, is paired against England outdoor international Ian Honnor (Adur, Sussex).

It will be a busy period for Neil Smith, as he has been in County Durham with the England’s men team competing in the Home International Series since Thursday – the series ends this afternoon.

Smith, who was not originally selected, was called-up a couple of weeks ago as a lead reserve and is hoping that he may get a chance to play and earn his first England indoor international cap.

After the match against Scotland this afternoon, which is expected to settle the destiny of the Home Championship, Smith will motor straight back down south for the Bristol Open.
