5:04pm

I'm afraid that's all we've got time for this afternoon, ladies and gents, but rest assured there'll be reaction on the Adver website in no time late this evening.

For now, let's all go off and calm down.

4:56pm

FULL-TIME

Bristol City 0 Swindon Town 0

What a heroic, stoic defensive performance from Town. Terrific bottle and character to play with 10 men for 35 minutes and see the game out for a point.

The back four were absolutely immense in the second half.

4:42pm

SWINDON SUBSTITUTION

Ben Gladwin replaces Ryan Harley, 83

4:39pm

80 mins: Emmanuel-Thomas should score when picked out unmarked in the box. Mishit shot bobbles into Foderingham's arms.

4:36pm

77 mins: Baldock heads Paterson's cross wide at the back post.

4:31pm

BRISTOL CITY SUBSTITUTION

Martin Paterson replaces Wade Elliott, 72

4:28pm

BRISTOL CITY DOUBLE SUBSTITUTION

4:25pm

SWINDON SUBSTITUTION

Yaser Kasim replaces George Barker, 65

4:24pm

65 mins: That's a tidy free-kick routine from City, but Baldock ends up skying over from 15 yards.

4:24pm

YELLOW CARD

It's McEveley's turn to go in the book, 64

4:21pm

Attendance here today is 14,884 (2,004 from Swindon).

4:18pm

57 mins: Now Fielding produces an extraordinary double save, both from Michael Smith, to prevent the Town striker nudging his side in front from close range.

4:18pm

56 mins: Harley's free-kick is well saved by Fielding, low to his left.

4:18pm

YELLOW CARD

Elliott booked for the foul that led to Pritchard's reaction, 55

4:17pm

RED CARD

Pritchard pushes Elliott to the floor with both hands to the chest after being clipped by the City midfielder.

It was the exactly the same action Bakary Sako only picked up a yellow for when he pushed over Raphael Branco on Tuesday night. Referee Kettle thinks it's violent enough to warrant a red, though.

4:13pm

54 mins: Jay Emmanuel-Thomas hits a post from a ridiculously tight angle at the end of Elliott's cross.

4:11pm

52 mins: Elliott sees his shot well saved by Foderingham before Archibald-Henville blocks Wagstaff's effort as City go as close as they have to scoring.

4:08pm

48 mins: Luongo runs from halfway and looks set to test Frank Fielding before Karleigh Osborne comes in with a timely block.

4:05pm

We're off and running again at Ashton Gate.

Town have had plenty of possession in the first 10 minutes without being able to get around the City back three. Slow ball in the midfield again their downfall.

3:07pm

Six mins: Nyron Nosworthy's shot is blocked by Troy Archibald-Henville. City want handball. Nothing coming from referee Kettle.

3:03pm

YELLOW CARD

Louis Thompson goes in the book for a challenge on Scott Wagstaff, 2

Really unnecessary decision by referee Trevor Kettle so early in the game. Setting the tone in a local derby.

2:50pm

Ten minutes til the big kick-off at Ashton Gate, then. City are expecting a bumper crowd of around 15,000 for this one. Swindon sold a little shy of 2,000 tickets. Should be a cracking atmosphere.

DANGER MEN

Sam Baldock

Swindon Advertiser: Jay Emmanuel-Thomas

JAY EMMANUEL-THOMAS

JET, as he is known, is a proper enigma. The former Arsenal youngster is capable of over and under whelming in equal measure, but even if he is having one of his ‘laid’ back’ afternoons he can light up a game in an instant.

Emmanuel-Thomas often plays the game at walking pace before short sharp bursts of action, and possesses a rocket of a shot which will keep Wes Foderingham on his toes.

MAN IN HE MIDDLE

Today's referee is Trevor Kettle and Swindon Town haven't lost when he's been in charge of one of their games for eight and a half years.

Sure, since then he's only officiated in three Robins matches but, still, it's something to grab hold of.

Bristol City have bolstered their ranks this afternoon with the loan signing of Martin Paterson from Huddersfield. He's on the bench today for the home side.

City manager Steve Cotterill said: "Martin is a very hard-working striker who will offer us another option in attack."

Today, March 15, is etched into Swindon Town's history. Forty-five years ago, the Robins won the League Cup on this very day, beating Arsenal 3-1 at Wembley.

Let's hope the current crop can take inspiration on the most famous date in the club's history...

With Wes playing we've got a chance. Sorry for Belford, but with no decent defence in front of him, he was always on a hiding. Maybe today, we can use the local derby spirit to get a much needed win....

2:08pm

ADVER CHIEF SPORTS WRITER SAM MORSHEAD: "I owuld imagine that will be a 3-5-2 for Town, with Jack Stephens, Troy Archibald-Henville and Jay McEveley the three centre-backs, George Barker and Nathan Thompson the wing-backs and Alex Pritchard supporting Michael Smith.

"I have, however, been proven wrong on this type of prophecy many, many times. It would make sense, though, given City's tendency to employ a similar formation.

"It's a huge ask for Stephens, after one training session with Town, to step in. We'll see what he's made of, I guess."

2:05pm

I'm told Darren Ward has been rested for today's game. He's not carrying an injury.

“He took a bit of abuse from a section of the fans which was a bit unkind, what they called him, but he proved them wrong and will be a vital part of this club for years to come.

TEAM NEWS

Nothing official until around 2pm but here's a quick look at how Swindon Town's squad is shaping up ahead of today's game.

Nathan Thompson has made a rapid recovery from a groin problem and is fit enough to be considered for selection this afternoon but Nathan Byrne may well miss out.

Swindon Advertiser: Nathan Thompson

BACK IN: NATHAN THOMPSON

Wes Foderingham has travelled to Ashton Gate but may not start, having returned to fitness after a groin issue of his own, but Grant Hall and Nile Ranger and long-term absentees.

1:35pm

The Swindon Town players are out on the Ashton Gate inspecting the playing surface which is pretty good, ahead of today's game.

1:33pm

Stick with me right the way through the afternoon for all the best build-up to a fierce local derby, followed by in-play updates, and we'll try to have some fun along the way as well.

Sit back, relax and enjoy!

1:32pm

City have won their last two games and are slowly but surely hauling themselves clear of danger. The target for Steve Cotterill's men now must be to leapfrog Swindon in the table and success today will be a big jump towards that goal.

1:32pm

Town go into the clash looking to complete a double over their local rivals and secure their first victory in seven matches but it certainly won't be easy.

1:30pm

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Ashton Gate for the West Country derby between Bristol City and Swindon Town.

I'll take 0-0 tbh. Good to finally see a clean sheet again!

However up top still looks very worrying, Cooper or whoever is in charge for next season needs to have a couple of forwards lined up! Shame we missed out on Matty Tubbs, would have been perfect replacement for Ranger. Plus Pritchard will be a miss for the next 3 matches, I think he needs to grow up from what the description on here! Get a grip lad, you're a professional footballer not a little boy. You can't make it to the top if you don't control your temper!

On the plus side sounds like TAH and Stevens were a good pair today! Keep these two and I think we might have a solid defence for the rest if the season!

Well 2nd half was the best defensive display since Davy Crockett was at the Alamo. SIR WES!! Should be given the freedom of Wiltshire.
He made at least five point blank saves to keep us in it.
Pritchard was a complete idiot for retaliating after being given the free kick. Always going to be a straight red and he now misses 3 games. If Cooper had the balls to fine players for dissent it might make players think twice. Heroic defending all round. Stephens looks a find and so much more mobile than Wardy.
Still lightweight up front and Smith was once again deployed out wide to precious little effect. He tries hard but his first touch lets him down.

The best thing was that everybody gave 110% to the cause today.

Nobody's getting carried away but if you can't give due credit for a good result and apparently a spirited performance it's a pretty poor show. Bristol City are on a decent run of form. Good result, no doubt about it.

Foderingham's part of the team, isn't he? Or do goalkeepers' performances not count? Nobody ever said "if it wasn't for Austin we wouldn't have won at Southampton" or "if it wasn't for Rogers, we wouldn't have won the League Cup". A striker's job is to score goals. A keeper's job is to stop them.i

I tend to think you're right about us going nowhere. Cooper might take us somewhere if he gets the chance to build a strong squad and not have the playing style dictated to him. But if you say otherwise you must be right.

thing is Ken he has a point
sometimes you have to tell it how it is we are going nowhere under this management
We could be if he gets the money to build a team or squad himself.

Lets face it how much progress have we actually made in 125 years? Middle of division 3? Which is exactly where we should be and deserve to be.

We are unlikely to be going anywhere under any manager as we don't have enough money or big enough support. I am happy we are not facing relegation.

But that shouldn't take away from the performance today and in response to Nomis, drawing away with ten men against a team on form when we are not is an achievement, despite his bitter reluctance to admit it. And I don't see anyone now claiming we are promotion candidates so he/ she is being a bit of a nob.

Great effort from the team today and I would have been happy with a draw given the form of the two teams.

Our defensive game was outstanding and Troy and Stephens put on the best central defensive performance of the season. Stephens must now be first choice for the rest of the season, presumably with Ward alternating every other game with Troy? Wes outstanding but you expect that.

The Thompsons will hopefully be part of this team for years to come. Very impressed with captain Nathan today and Louis has made great progress this season.

Pritchard, well had a moment of madness and has apologised, thought he'd overcome the silly bookings but now has 10 or 11 bookings and a red without making a tackle.

Going forward a concern although we did create some chances, the wonder save from Fielding from Smith was one of the best I've seen. Some good shooting opportunities fell for Luongo and Kasim but they passed instead of shooting which was a bit baffling, maybe not on their preferred foot but have to have a go surely.

Wouldn't be surprised to hear Wardy call time at the end of the season but will he stay in a coaching capacity? Would be good to see him stay in that capacity imo.

Ref Kettle had a reasonable game I thought, surprised by the early booking in a derby and seemed to fall for a few of the City players going to ground a bit easy, but he got the key decisions right which is all you can ask for. Pritchard's red was his easiest decision of the game.

Also good to see Storey recalled, Barker has put in two better showings in last two games but Storey I think has a bit more to offer and may link well with Smith.

Credit to Cooper today, he produced a motivated team, got the subs right, and deserves some praise. Nathan to remain as captain please....

Great point today and showed that we can dig in and obviously the defense strengthening helped with Stephens slotting in well it seems. Makes one wonder what if ? had they signed this guy sooner. I dread to think how many games Ward and Hall have cost us this season with stupid errors. Troy is not fully fit as it seems some of the other players playing with knocks so it just shows how we are down to the bare bones. Great to see Miles back especially with Pritchard out for three games. A next season long loan would be great for Stephens and would love to see Nile Ranger leading the team next season but it would be great if we could tighten the defense and a few decent additions we could do quite well. Well done Town and the 2000+ fans that made a difference.

UPDATE: Match finished 0-0 despite Swindon being down to 10 men for much of the second half. Bar one scuffle near North Street afterwards, police operation seems to have been a success.

UPDATE: Half-time, Bristol City 0 Swindon Town 0. Cracking atmosphere as the game began and City just shading possession but honours even so far.

UPDATE: Large group of Swindon fans marched to away turnstiles by police after almost all home support were safely inside the stadium.

UPDATE: Police paying special attention to the away turnstiles as teams come out to kick off. Group of home fans - most of them teenagers - are kept away by stewards and mounted officers.

UPDATE: Signs warning fans that if they bring flares or fireworks into the stadium area they will be arrested are everywhere. Fans caught with either can't say they weren't warned.

UPDATE: Should be a cracking atmosphere for this local derby. As kick off approaches big queues at the turnstiles.

The Royal Navy are recruiting at the back of the Williams Stand. Can City sail to another three points this afternoon?

UPDATE: Could be one of the biggest crowds of the season at Ashton Gate. Park and pubs close to the ground packed.

A 17-YEAR-OLD youth was arrested as police monitored the arrival of Swindon Town fans for the club's game with Bristol City.

A contingent of officers in two police cars, three vans and one dog section van was tasked to Bristol Temple Meads for the fans' arrival.

Insp Shawn Taylor confirmed a youth was arrested for being in possession of a flare.

He said most of an estimated 400 Swindon fans arrived at the station on the 10.15am train and made their way on foot to Ashton Gate.

No trouble was reported.

With the city bathed in glorious sunshine, it's a great day for a cider in the sun and plenty of home fans enjoyed a few bevvies in the bars opposite Greville Smyth Park.

The only cloud over the day is the continued presence of relegation fears for City, although recent form - particularly away from home - has been good.

At 2pm the police presence at Ashton Gate was pretty light compared to elsewhere in city centre. A large group of Swindon fans was earlier marched over the Gaol Ferry Bridge.

At 2pm the police presence at Ashton Gate was pretty light compared to elsewhere in city centre. A large group of Swindon fans was earlier marched over the Gaol Ferry Bridge.
