SUPERMARINE boss Dave Webb is looking forward to finishing March and getting into April’s lighter fixture list.

Marine’s games tonight and Saturday will be their ninth and 10th of the month. The fixture backlog is compunded by the Southern league rules which state postponed matches must be completed within 42 days, meaning that Marine’s busy schedule this month is followed by only six games in April.

Tonight the Webb’s Wood club travel to Devon to play fifth-placed Tiverton. One of the teams many tipped at the start of the season for the league title.

Webb believes his side will have to be near their best to get a win at Ladysmead.

“It’s a big game, our problem is the amount of football in such a short space of time, if we come out of it with a positive, even just a point, it will be a good result, albeit it’s still tight at the top,” said Webb.

“Takes me back to last season in April, we had two schedules like this where we played four times in seven days. Last year we had 11 games in April, this year we have six. It’s more manageable but this season the league is a far tighter group, the top nine all still think they have a chance to make it (to the play-offs).

“It’s a big ask (the busy schedule) but we spoke about it as a group, if we do well in the next two games we’ll have a little gap, this is the make or break for the squad.

“It’s really about what we do, if we give an 8/10 performance we can win.”

For tonight’s game Webb will be without Tuesday’s hat-trick hero Josh Parsons, as well as Mark Flanagan, Craig Curtis who are all unavailable.

Alex Ferguson is also a doubt with an injury.

Elsewhere John Fisher’s Highworth take on Hellenic Premier basement club Abingdon Town.

Fisher said the only reason his side would come away with anything other than a win is if his players take their victory for granted.

“The only reason you don’t beat the bottom sides is if you’re not focussed enough. You tell them all the things in the world but I can’t get inside their head and find out what they’re thinking.”
