Walcot youngster Mikey McDonagh faces the biggest challenge of his boxing career on Saturday when he competes in the National Schoolboy semi finals at Feltham, near London, writes Dave Veysey.
The 12-year-old was impressive in the previous round, where he beat London Champion Thomas Rolfe from Repton Boys on a unanimous points decision.
This time he encounters Eastern Counties Champion Eryk Ciureja from the Sparta Fenland Club in Cambridgshire, in a Class A, (32.5kgs) contest.
He said ahead of his match: “I am really looking forward to my semi-final.
“Training has gone well and I feel good.
“This bout is going to be tough but I’ll give it my best shot.”
McDonagh’s Coach Harry Scott added: “Mikey is a good lad who trains very hard and deserves his success.
“This contest will be the hardest of his short career, but he has a good chance and everyone at Walcot wishes him well.”
The action starts at 12.15pm on Saturday at Feltham Community College.
