MARK Cooper has called on Swindon Town’s fans to inspire their team to victory over the Sheffield United juggernaut tomorrow, saying the Robins need the support “more than ever”.

Cooper has watched from the sidelines as Town’s flagging season has enjoyed a mini-renaissance over the course of the past fortnight, with a gutsy draw at Bristol City followed by back to back wins against Preston North End and Tranmere Rovers.

If Swindon avoid defeat to the Blades this weekend, Cooper will have led his team to their longest unbeaten run in League One this term - four matches - while victory will take them to within a single point of the play-off places.

They couldn’t have landed a much tougher test than Nigel Clough’s United, however, who have lost just one of their last 10 league matches - to table-topping Wolves - and have also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Therefore, Cooper has asked the County Ground fans to be in good voice and high spirits tomorrow.

He said: “We can’ underestimate the task on Saturday, it’s going to be very, very difficult.

“They are full of optimism, they probably believe they can still get in the play-offs but we’re at home and we know that if we play like we did against Preston we can get a result.

“The fans were brilliant (against Preston) and it just shows that if everybody is together it produces far more positive results and performances.

“It’s important and it’s a message we’ve been trying to get across. I understand that people get frustrated when things are not going well but we’ve mainly got a team of untried young professionals who are trying to do their best and they need the support now more than ever.

“The only slowing down of that juggernaut is against Wolves, which is one defeat in about 33,000. The manager there has gone in and done an unbelievable job.

“You look at where they were when he took over and he’s taken them to the semi-final of the FA Cup and they’d be in the top two or three in any form table since he took over.”
