HORSESHOE ABC’s Harrison Pearson has reached the semi-finals of the class B 72kg Schoolboy Championships.

The 13-year-old Commonweal School pupil progressed to the last four of the competition after beating London champion Paul Mongon.

Pearson went out from the first bell with hands held high, boxing from behind a strong southpaw lead and caught Mongon almost at will.

Despite Mongon being the more experienced boxer, he struggled against Pearson’s superior power.

In the second round Mongon tried to mix things up a bit knowing he was behind, coming forward with uppercuts and hooks.

Pearson stood strong and countered effectively before taking control of the third round.

The Horseshoe boxer forced Mongon to take a standing eight count and ran out a unanimous points winner.

Coach Mark Brown said: “It was breathtaking, to think young Harrison was 83kg just after Christmas and the heaviest weight division is up to 72kg which meant he had to lose 11kg in two months.

“Today he weighed in and had to lose the last 1kg and then he went on and performed like he did, is just fantastic.

“Who knows with his determination and dedication he could go all the way and become English schoolboy champion.”
