Foderingham in ‘best form of the season’ says Cooper
SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper thinks goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is in the best form of his season so far.
Foderingham, who has conceded just one goal in 270 minutes of action since returning to the Town side a fortnight ago following a groin injury, has in Cooper’s eyes significantly improved his distribution from the back and command of his penalty area over the course of the campaign.
And the Swindon boss was quick to praise the 23-year-old, and goalkeeping coach Fraser Digby, in his pre-match press conference ahead of today’s visit of Sheffield United to the County Ground.
“I think Wes is now starting to come for a lot more crosses and showing what a really good goalkeeper he is.
“It gives the opposition a problem, when you squeeze up the pitch, that it’s not as big for them.
“There’s not much room to play in,” he said.
“I think he’s been outstanding. He’s come and taken crosses and vastly improved playing out from the back.
“You can see why people were looking at him.
“Fraser has done a lot of work with him in terms of bossing his area and coming for crosses a lot more and you can see the benefits of that from the last few games.”
The Blades arrive in Wiltshire this afternoon off the back of a run of just one defeat in their last 10 league games and will provide a formidable test for Cooper’s men, who themselves are unbeaten in three.
“It is important that we have a strong finish to the end of the season, for various reasons.
“We have to give the fans some optimism for next year and the players have to show they’re worth being part of what we’re trying to do as well,” said the Swindon manager.
