Wiltshire showjumper Jessica Mendoza enjoyed Grand Prix success out in Arezzo recently, competing in the second week of Italy’s Toscana Tour.

Riding John Roberts and Sarah Mendoza’s Spirit T, the combination were one of seven from the field of 57 to contest the Grand Prix to go through to the jump-off after producing a clear round but accruing just a single time penalty.

Posting yet another clear in the second round, the UK Sport lottery funded World Class Development rider was unfortunate to record two time penalties to finish third behind Italy’s Guilia Marquet (FD Funke vt Heike) and Russian rider Alexandr Belekhov (Viceroy).

It was an action-packed week for Jessica who notched up two first placings on Sunday, with Falballa de Messitert (owned by her mother, Sarah Mendoza, and T&I Nv) in the CSI3* Against the Clock 1m35 class before also winning her second CSI3* 1m35 class, this time with Classic Highly (owned by Sarah Mendoza).

Jessica also took sixth place with Fabelle de Messitert on Friday’s 1m35 CSI3* Against the Clock class.

The World Class Development Programme underpins World Class Performance and, together with the Equine Pathway, they comprise the Equestrian World Class Programme, incorporating the three Olympic sports of dressage, eventing, showjumping and the Paralympic sport of para-equestrian dressage.

The Programme has been funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, through Exchequer and National Lottery funds, via UK Sport since 1998.
