SWINDON’S Jack Tweddell declared himself happy with his weekend’s work after making the last eight of the PDC World Youth Championship on Saturday.

Tweddell picked up £1,500 for his efforts as he beat Aaron Knox, Shaun Narain and Josh Payne to reach the quarter finals in Reading, but the end of the road did eventually come following a 6-2 defeat to Dirk van Duijvenbode.

If you had asked Tweddell before the event whether he would have been happy with a £1,500 haul he would probably have replied positively, but, although he was very happy with his efforts, after his impressive start to the day the Swindon player admitted he was a little disappointed.

“I’m more than happy with what I did although it’s a little disappointing I didn’t get further,” he said.

“The quarter-final is a pretty late stage in the competition but, after the way I played in the first few rounds, I thought I could go even further and maybe make the semis or the final.

“I had chances in the last game and I just didn’t take them. There were a couple of opportunities which didn’t happen but that’s the way it goes.

The prize money Tweddell picked up will allow him to not have to worry about entrance fees or travel expenses for the rest of the season, but the Swindon player is also keen to start making the grade in senior competition on a more regular basis.

“The money will really help with the rest of the season with entrance fees and stuff, which will be really good.

“I’ve been playing well and have covered my entrance fee every weekend so far but the money will make things a lot more comfortable for the rest of the year and will help me concentrate on my darts.”
