NATIONWIDE A’s final day 66-48 final day victory over Raychem was enough for the side to ensure they finished top of Swindon & District League Division One.

The victory was the team’s 19th from their 20 games this season and also means they have earned a place in the play-offs to reach the regional leagues.

Nationwide started the game eight goals down in the first quarter but, after an encouraging team talk by their coach Denise Sell, they stepped up to the mark and went out fighting.

There were some impressive individual performances with some great shooting by Sue Kissane and Kate Norton Hewins, as well as some great interceptions in defence by Rachael Kelly and Amy Cottle.

Captain Katherine Sell, Fran Connelly and Shannon Stephenson also performed superbly in a game which was pleasing on the eye.

Captain Sell said: “I am really proud of the commitment shown by the squad this season and I think that’s really reflected in our performances.”

Elsewhere in the division, second placed Moredon A beat Lawn A 63-33 in what was their final game of the campaign, while there were also wins for Croft A over Moredon B and Delta A over Pinehurst A.

In Division Two, leaders Corsham lost 41-31 to second placed Burmah A in the two teams’ final match, although it wasn’t enough for the latter to overturn Corsham’s lead at the top of the table as they still won the league by four points. Pinehurst B beat Burmah B 39-23.

Croft B had already wrapped up the Division Three crown prior to the weekend, but second-placed Raychem C failed to finish on a high as they slipped to a 35-32 loss to Nationwide D.

Croft C were clear winners of Division Four but hammered home that point with a 36-16 victory over Burmah C and, in Division Five, Delta C ended their league-winning season with a 34-18 win over Wootton Bassett B.
