SUPERMARINE ended their season with a superb 24-12 victory at Wimbledon.

The win was a fitting end to the campaign, as Marine secured a fifth place finish in the league.

The hosts kicked off, giving Supermarine the first touch of the ball, and they were quick to move forward making up ground straight from the off.

A number of rucks and mauls saw the ball turned over several times for both sides but it was Supermarine who managed to make the most of their attack.

It wasn’t long before inside centre Bel Martin-Mulholland pushed past the Wimbledon defence to score. Natalie Williams added the extras.

The visitors continued to dominate and it didn’t take long for them to score the second try, with fly-half and skipper Claire Legg finding a gap in the defence.

Wimbledon did attack hard when they had their chance and pushed Supermarine back but they were unable to keep hold of the ball long enough.

Supermarine had driven their hosts backwards and took their opportunity to add to their lead with a try from scrum-half Leanne Sear, who picked up from the base of a ruck to dive over for a 17-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw rucks and mauls again being turned over but Wimbledon upped their game and attacked well.

They managed to drive Supermarine right back to their try line.

Going through the phases they quickly got the ball out wide and drove over to score their first try of the game.

However, Sear grabbed her second try of the match when she broke away and just had to run it over the line, with Williams once again securing the conversion.

Supermarine still had to work hard until the end as Wimbledon scored a second try and weren’t giving up.

But it was too little too late and Supermarine were relieved to hear the final whistle.
