CIRENCESTER Seniors would have expected to win their match against Wrag Barn, having shown superiority over the Highworth team both at home and away last season, but this time the visitors claimed a 5-3 win.

Seniors captain Clive Bennett and Graham Morgan failed to shine in the opening match, going one down.

Even though John Morris and John Anderson won handsomely, 6&4, the next two matches were lost to put Cirencester on the back foot.

Club captain Mark Woodhead and Ian Hunter, playing his first match for the team, narrowed the score to 3-2 but Cirencester could only win one of the three remaining matches - David Walters and Patrick Waldron by 3&2 - to lose the tie, meaning they must reflect on a fairly ordinary start to the season.

Meanwhile, Deryk Wright came out on top in the latest men’s stableford event at Ogbourne Down.

RESULTS

Divison One: 1, Deryk Wright 39 points; 2, Alan Bathe 38 points c/b, 3, Phil Malpas 38 points c/b.
