IT’S time for the fans to vote for their Swindon Advertiser STFC Player of the Year 2013/14.

Town have exceeded many expectations this season, defying many early predictions of a relegation scrap to stay in touch with League One’s top six for much of the campaign, reaching the area final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the third round of the League Cup in the process.

Over the course of the term there have been several outstanding individual performances from a variety of players, many of whom are enjoying their first full season in the professional game. But who will get your vote?

Will it be on-loan Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alex Pritchard, whose energetic displays have lit up the division? Pritchard has scored seven goals in 41 appearances for the Robins to date, come up with eight assists and was named the second best player in League One at the recent Football League awards.

Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham will surely run him close.

As if we didn’t already appreciate the shot-stoppers talents in between the sticks, Foderingham returned from a groin injury in March in style and has been a major factor in Town’s run of four victories and just one defeat in their last six matches. He’s pulled off the odd world class save in that time, too.

Yaser Kasim, plucked from non-league obscurity, has reveled in the heart of the Robins’ midfield and quickly established cult hero status in the early months of the campaign.

Alongside him, Massimo Luongo has played almost every minute of every match since joining from Spurs and his bustling runs from the middle of the park have caused many a team some pretty serious headaches over the past eight months.

Defensively, Jay McEveley has had arguably his best season in the red of a Town. His win-at-all-costs mentality has impressed supporters and, while he is still searching for that elusive first Swindon goal, his ability to adapt to a variety of formations with aplomb has been impressive.

Louis and Nathan Thompson, the darlings of the Town youth set-up and terrific adverts for academy football in the region, have been rock solid throughout the campaign, too, with Louis in particular going beyond what was expected of him and notching his first pro goals for the club in two huge home wins against Sheffield United and Brentford.

Had other players – such as Troy Archibald-Henville, Nile Ranger and Nicky Ajose – enjoyed a full year in the first team perhaps they too would be high up in voters’ minds.

Archibald-Henville, after a long injury lay-off, has been dominant at the heart of the Swindon backline, Ranger’s influence up top is undeniable, with Town averaging a point more a game with him in the side, while Ajose endeared himself to fans during his loan spell from Peterborough United with his work ethic and habit of popping up in the right place at the right time.

So now it’s over to you. Voting lines are open until midnight on Tuesday, April 29, and we’ll announce the winner on the morning of the final match of the season – at home to Rotherham United on May 3.
