HELLENIC LEAGUE: Davies delighted with Malmesbury's reaction

Swindon Advertiser: Malmesbury boss Gareth Davies Malmesbury boss Gareth Davies

MALMESBURY Victoria banished the memories of Saturday’s 7-0 thrashing at Lydney Town with a 4-0 dismantling of Carterton at the Flying Monk Ground.

Vics boss Gareth Davies said that he didn’t need to pick his side up for the Easter Monday clash as they were determined to put things right after the disappointment in Gloucestershire.

Dan Thompson fired the hosts into the lead midway through the first-half and then Ryan Latham added a second minutes before the interval.

Scott Chilcott made it 3-0 to ensure that the points would be staying with cash-strapped club and then Josh Newman added the gloss to the win.

“We were well worth the win,” Davies said. “When we got into the dressing room I told the lads to forget about Saturday and just go out and enjoy playing football.

“We started brightly and we were 2-0 up at half-time, but it could have been more.

“We created some good chances and it was good to see them enjoy themselves.

“I didn’t need to gee them up, because you knew that after Saturday they weren’t happy and that they wanted to put things right.”

The win moves Malmesbury on to 28 points and with one game remaining they could find themselves above New College if they defeat North Leigh United tomorrow night.

“To think that we could end up with 31 points is a great achievement considering where we were earlier in the season,” Davies said.

“I asked all the players after the match against Carterton if they were all available and they said yes.

“If we can get the win to finish the season that would be fantastic, because we were a million miles away from where we were.

“The lads have done a great job out there against Carterton and it is fair say I’m pretty buoyant after that.”
