NEW head coach Kev Pamphilon has “re-energised” Wootton Bassett ahead of their Wiltshire League campaign, according to the club’s captain Darren Beasant.

Pamphilon replaced Shaz Khan at Ryland’s Way, with Khan returning to Shrivenham, and Beasant has been hugely impressed by the impact he has made over the winter.

He told the Advertiser: “Shaz did a year with us. He’s a lovely guy, a good cricketer, a good coach but if I’m being honest it didn’t really work out for him. I think he found it a struggle with work commitments and didn’t have a great year on the field, and he’s gone back to Shrivenham. He goes with our best wishes.

“Kev’s a very well qualified coach and hasn’t been able to do very much for a few years due to family commitments. He’s taken over and he’s done a sterling job through pre-season.

“The attendance and commitment from the guys has been a magnitude above what it was this time last year, so Kev seems to have found a way to reenergise the guys.”
