Spurs loanee Alex Pritchard builds up Robins’ last two fixtures

Swindon Advertiser: Town midfielder Alex Pritchard Town midfielder Alex Pritchard

ALEX Pritchard says Swindon Town are preparing themselves for two “massive battles” as the League One season reaches its climax.

The Robins travel to relegation-threatened Notts County tomorrow before hosting Rotherham United next weekend, knowing two victories could be enough to propel them into the play-off places, if Peterborough United implode in their final two games against Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale.

Pritchard, who will turn out for Town for the last time on Saturday under the terms of his youth loan from Tottenham Hotspur, is anticipating two tough, physical encounters.

He said: “I think both of the games are going to be massive battles, especially Notts County. I don’t know what the pitch is like but they need to win and we do as well. It’s going to be a great game, I’m looking forward to it.

“Obviously it’s going to be my last game so whatever happens – whether I’m involved or not – I’m going to give it my all.”

Notts County manager Shaun Derry has suggested that he may have to revert to direct, aerial football to compensate for the atrocious playing surface at Meadow Lane.

Pritchard responded by saying: “I don’t think it’s the pitch’s fault it’s going to go long. We’re not going to change, we’re going to play football. If we have to go long we will.

“We aren’t going to play football the whole game, we’ll be on the back foot a lot of the game, they’ll have their tails up for a lot of the game and we’ll have ours up a lot of the game, too.

“We just have to take our chances and win the game.

“Looking at the weekend, we should have won by three or four.

“The way we’re going at the moment, take away the Carlisle slip-up, has been outstanding. The way things are going at the moment, we can beat anyone.

“It’s coming to the end of the season now, there are only a couple of games left and we can still get in the play-offs, so everyone is buzzing. Going to training, everyone will be buzzing and raring to go.”

Cooper said in the article on Byrne's absence, same squad as he fielded against Bradford. With the known state of their pitch and, if as expected they will play the long direct ball, we are going to need a strong midfield who are prepared to defend in depth. I think if I was Cooper I would start Gladwin along side Lee Cooper in favour of tLuango who will get bogged down if he plays his usual game. I have to be honest I don't rate him as high as some fans do. He seems to have tunnelled vision and doesn't see the runs being made by his team mates, his passing % to a town player is poor and he gives the ball away to easily and struggles to get back to help the defence. Yes, he has the occasional good game and shows some attacking prowess, but horses for courses and if this pitch is as bad as reported it is unlikely to bring out the best in him.
