SWINDON Supermarine hot-shot Ash Edenborough is hoping that there won’t be the need to repeat last year’s play-off semi-final penalty shoot-out.

The Webbs Wood Stadium side had their hearts broken by Merthyr Town last April when the Welsh club went through on spot-kicks.

And as the two prepare to clash again tonight for a place in the Southern League Division One South and West play-off final, Marine’s hat-trick hero from Saturday’s 5-3 win over Bishops Cleeve is hoping that they can do the job in normal time.

“It’s a bit of de ja vu playing Merthyr in the play-offs,” Edenborough said. “We owe them one for last year.

“We don’t want penalties, because that would mean an extra 30 minutes first and we are struggling a bit for numbers.

“But this year we do have players who are willing to step-up and take on the responsibility if needed.”

The striker, however, is hoping that he and his teammates can adjust to the 3G pitch at Penydarren Park.

“We have trained on those types of pitches before, but training and playing are completely different,” he said.

“I have spoken to a few of their lads and they absolutely love playing on the 3G, so we need to make sure that we adjust quickly.”

Should the South Marston men be victorious tonight they would face either Tiverton Town or Paulton Rovers in the final.

But Edenborough is warning against looking too far into the future and the possibility of promotion.

“We have to focus on Merthyr,” he said.

“They are good side and we are going to have to be at our best to beat them.

“Then there is either Tiverton or Paulton, another two good sides, we can’t think about all that yet.”
