TEENAGE boxer Michael Price made a dream debut for Walcot with a decisive points’ victory in the opening round of the Junior ABA Championships in the Forest of Dean, writes Dave Veysey.

The 15-year-old encountered Macauley McMillan from Synwell ABC in a Class B, 57kgs, contest.

After a scrappy opening few seconds, the Walcot southpaw settled down to score with right jabs and straight lefts and take the first round.

McMillan was strong and kept advancing during the middle session, but Price showed all his experience in making the Synwell boxer miss repeatedly, whilst landing with fast punches on the counter.

The final two minutes again saw effective points scoring on the counter by the former England Schoolboy, and he was duly awarded a unanimous points verdict by all three ringside judges.

He said afterwards: “I am delighted to have won on my Walcot debut.

“I hadn’t boxed for nearly six months before this contest, so it was great to get back in the ring. I’m looking forward to boxing again soon.”
