HIGHWORTH Town manager John Fisher can’t help but look back of the past season and think what might have been.

The Worthians were well set for an assault on the Hellenic League Premier Division title before Christmas, but as the rain came down, Fisher saw their hopes erode.

And while Highworth finished in seventh place, the second half of the campaign has left the veteran manager to considering calling it a day for good.

“I’ll make my decision in a couple of weeks,” Fisher told the Avdertiser. “I’m meeting with the chairman on Saturday and then I’m off to Butlins with the players.

“Then I’ll see how I’m feeling and decide. If you had asked me last Monday I’d said that would have been it.

“But my wife said to me don’t make any rash decisions, because I may regret it.

“When I decide to call it a day here, that will be it for me, I won’t be taking a break and then start to look for a new job, when I’m done, I’ll be done.”

Fisher has been vocal in his criticism of some of his players commitment to the cause following the enforced winter break and it is the lack of effort which overshadows the whole season for the Worthians boss.

“I’d sum the season up like an old school report, started off well but could have done better,” Fisher said.

“But the one thing that stood out is the lack of commitment from the players after Christmas.

“We started off so well, we were up there, so it is disappointing to see how it all ended.

“After the final match I told the players how I felt. I love the club and if I don’t think things will change next season then I won’t be here.”
