WILTSHIRE Under 25 men’s side, containing 10 players from local clubs, maintained their unbeaten start to the 2014 season on Bank Holiday Monday.

The young lads won the Four Counties U25 Bowls Festival tournament at Keynsham, featuring Gloucestershire, hosts Somerset, Wiltshire and Worcestershire.

Wiltshire won all of their three games to collect a maximum six points and lift the Four Counties Trophy.

Michael Richards’s rink took Wiltshire’s top spot when just edging out Nick Revell’s foursome by one shot for a nine-shot success, while Gary Jackson’s four were involved in a tight game throughout but came out on top by two shots to complete the perfect result for the Moonrakers.

Rink 1: Craig Hatherall (Westlecot), Ben Choules (Highworth), David Murray ((Rodbourne Cheney) & Nick Revell (Amesbury) beat Somerset 26-18.

Rink 2: Worcestershire beat Gloucestershire 27-20.

Rink 3: Mike Titcombe (W’lecot), Luke Jowett (Cricklade), James Richman (High) & Gary Jackson (W’lecot) beat Gloucestershire 22-20.

Rink 4: Somerset beat Worcestershire 20-17.

Rink 5: Adam Bolwell (Holt), Craig Morphet (High), Matt Daniell (Wootton Bassett) & Mike Richards (W’lecot) beat Worcestershire 23-14.

Rink 6: Somerset beat Gloucestershire 31-13.

Final placings: 1 Wiltshire 6pts; 2 Somerset 4pts; 3 Worcestershire 2pts; 4 Gloucestershire 0pt 

  • THE County Men’s Bowls Association are celebrating their 100th birthday in 2014 and to mark the milestone they have organised a series of special matches this year.

The first of the centenary celebrations games will be held at Swindon Bowls Club tomorrow and features Wiltshire Tourists versus West Glamorgan BA (2.30pm).

This September they will be touring Devon being based in Exmouth.

The Moonrakers Tourists side will be led by 2014 county president Dave Richards (Trowbridge Westbourne) with 16 of the 24 players in the team being members of local clubs.

  • SWINDON Bowls Club, situated on Marsh Farm Lane (off Shrivenham Road) are holding an Open Day next Saturday May 17 from 10am to 4pm.
