FIVE senior awards were handed out as Royal Wootton Bassett brought the curtain down on the 2013/14 season with their annual presentation night last weekend.

Openside flanker Gavin Ougan took the player of the year gong, with hooker Will Hooper named coach’s player of the year, while Deri Thomas was announced as young player of the year.

The most improved player prize went to prop Tim Corrin and Gary Smith took the title of 2nd XV player of the year.

Head coach Alan Low said the evening was a fitting conclusion to a successful campaign after the club’s first term at their new Ballards Ash ground.

“It was a fantastic night. We had over 100 guests at the club so it was a really good affair, just talking about and celebrating the season after our first year at Ballards,” he said.

“When we reflect on the year, it was a successful season. We spoke about next year and what we’re looking to achieve and build upon from this season. The lads had a really good night and it was followed up the next day by four of the senior squad representing Dorset & Wilts.

“I wanted to say a big thank you to Calvin Klein. It sounds ridiculous but all the award winners were presented with a Calvin Klein watch and it was really good to get that support from them on the evening.

“It was a bit of a surprise for all the award winners and they were over the moon with their new watches.”
