ROBINS’ youngster Nick Morris believes his guest appearances for Birmingham in recent weeks have helped to make him a better rider.

As well as his commitments with Swindon and Somerset in the Premier League, the Australian has been used as a guest by the Brummies over the past two weeks following an injury to Adam Skornicki.

After managing seven in the Brummies visit to Belle Vue on May 19, which included two victories and a heat 15 appearance, Morris scored 5+1 at Perry Barr two nights later when the hosts beat Eastbourne 52-44.

Morris will be racing against the Brummies this evening but believes the brief time he has spent with another Elite League team this season has helped him develop.

“It’s good for me to get out and ride a bit more and I’ve done a bit of guesting in the past in the Premier League which was fun,” he said.

“It’s always nice to get out there and do some extra meetings and it all helps me.

“I’ve guested for Birmingham before and Poole once so it was nice to do it again.

“I did alright I think and hopefully they will have me back again.”

While Morris admitted guesting can be a slightly different experience compared to racing for his own team, he insisted once he gets out on the track it’s as if nothing has changed.

“Going into the pits when you’re guesting can sometimes be a bit difficult because you don’t always know the guys so well but once you get out on the track it’s all the same,” he said.

“Maybe there is some pressure but I always put a lot of pressure on myself anyway so it doesn’t really matter there.

“It doesn’t hurt as bad if you lose because it’s not your own team but you always want to do well and it’s all money at the end of the day.”
