WEPL 2nd XI: Swindon collapse against Taunton Deane

TOM Codling’s 43 was all in vain for Swindon 2nd XI as they crashed to a 51-run defeat to Taunton Deane at the County Ground.

After seeing Cameron Baden claim 4-21 to dismiss the visitors for 146, the hosts capitulated in spectacular fashion in Premier One 2nd XI.

With Swindon’s top six batsmen all failing to get into double-figures, the County Ground men were already up against it when Codling arrived at the crease.

And while he was the only person to attack the Taunton bowlers, all the remaining batsmen failed to reach more than three.

In Premier Two 2nd XI, Goatacre found their attack in inspired form as they ripped Chard apart in 20.5 overs.

Chris Watchman and Tom Ponting did the early damage as they picked three wickets apiece in their nine overs.

But it was Dan Wiseman who finished Chard off as he picked up three wickets in 11 balls having only conceded one run as the hosts were dismissed for just 49.

Sam Parish and Mark Hunt wasted little in knocking off the runs as they cruised home in eight overs with scores of 31 and 17 respectively.

Lechlade maintained their four-point lead at the top of the Wiltshire Division thanks to a seven-wicket sucess over Devizes.

Jacob Ward ripped through the hosts batsmen on his way to figures of 7-8 as Devizes were dismissed for just 48 in 19 overs.

The table-toppers need just 59 balls to secure their victory with Alastair Killham leading the way with 26.

Matt Hyde’s 139 built the foundations for Nationwide House’s 243-6 in their 77-run win over Great Bedwyn.

Having put on 75 for the opening wicket with Mick Harris, Hyde found plenty of support from those around to him.

While, Dan Swatton struck a solid 59, some tight bowling from Marc Yates helped restrict Bedwyn to 166-7 in their 45 overs.

Imran Ashraf and Adam Woolford lead Purton to a three-wicket success over Calne.

Calne skipper Adam Woods topped scored for the hosts with 66 as they were restricted to 174-7. Matthew Haywood was the pick of the Purton bowlers as he claimed 2-19 from nine overs.

Solid scores from Ashraf (44) and Woolford (41) helped see the visitors home with 25 balls to spare.
