NATIONWIDE House struggles in the Wiltshire Division continued as they fell to a seven-wicket loss to leaders Great Bedwyn.

Russell Arkley’s side have yet to win a match this term and they are sitting at foot of the table, six points adrift of Calne.

Against Bedwyn on Saturday, they got off to a reasonable start from openers Roger Pettifer (34) and Dave Coates (7) before the latter fell with 25 on the board.

Mark Flay (37) joined the Nationwide opener and the pair put on 58 for the second wicket before a mid-order collapse left them 126-5.

Despite a late rally Ed Olley, he scored 25 from 13 balls, the visitors were dismissed for 176 with Max Andrews and Richard Bosson both claiming three wickets apiece for Bedwyn.

The hosts made a steady start in their reply with captain John Palmer and Bosson putting on 38 for the opening wicket.

The skipper was then joined by Robert Palmer and they moved Bedwyn on to 117 before they were removed by Ravi Samant for 60 and 35 respectively.

But that was to be the last of Nationwide’s success as Neil Maycock (39*) and Max Andrews (18*) led the hosts home with more than eight overs to spare.

Arkley said: “There are lot of positives that we can take out of Saturday’s game.

“We went there with a batting line-up who haven’t had much time out in the middle and Mark Flay and Roger Pettifer get some welcome runs.

“To score 176 on a tough deck was good but we lost wickets in clusters.

“I thought that we started well with the ball as well keeping the economy rate down, but we just didn’t take the wickets at crucial stages.

“There is no need to panic at the moment. I believe that once we get a run of games we will start moving up the table.”
