MATTHEW Brown has called on Shrivenham’s bowlers to “maintain their high standards” for the rest of the season after their superb display in the cup last weekend.

The Shrivenham seamer was elated with the effort from last week’s bowling attack, but he wants to build on that performance.

He said: “If we’re to reach our own expectations for the season, we now have to produce those performances week in week out. If we can’t do that, last week will soon be forgotten.

Shrivenham return to league action this weekend, where they will travel to newly-promoted Cowley Internationals, who have started 2014 well after three wins from five games in all competitions.

The two sides have never met on league terms before and Brown dismissed any thought that this would be an easier game than last week.

“Cowley may be new to the league, but they have some good players who are able to make a big impact on a game,” he added.

“Last week we made it hard for ourselves, it wasn’t the opposition. Great Horwood were another new team and both they and Cowley have started the year impressively.

“We made the mistake of being complacent against Horwood on the opening day, but we’ll learn from that and ensure that we are switched on from ball one in what will be a very tough game.”

Cowley’s decent start has been led by opening bowler Ayaz Khan who has been destructive with the new ball having taken 15 wickets in just four matches, but Shrivenham may take comfort in that the hosts have scored over 140 runs just once this year.

For the visitors, there are two changes from last week’s team as Will Snell and Elliott Day return, replacing Rory Hipwell and Matthew Harris.
