KEITH Mayo has urged Swindon fight fans to keep an eye on Joe Pigford as he boxes on the undercard of Kelvin Young’s title defence tomorrow night.

The Southampton welterweight will arrive at the Oasis Leisure Centre with a record of five fights, five wins, four by stoppage.

The rangy 21-year-old will face Hungarian Gergo Vari, who has won 13 of his 18 fights, before Young defends his IBO super-middleweight inter-continental title against Francis Tchoffo and Lawrence Bennett meets Chris Keane in a British cruiserweight title eliminator.

“Watch his right hook,” Mayo said about Pigford. “He is an exciting boxer, he’s had five fights, five wins, four by the way of knock out.

“We’ve had him up sparring here and he is a bit special, we are close to doing a deal to do a few more fights on my shows.”

Mayo also has another unbeaten welterweight on his show in Reading’s Tamuka Mucha, who faces Mancunian Dee Mitchell over six rounds.

Mucha has stopped one of his eight opponents and the Greenbridge-based promoter believes the time the 21-year-old spent at the world renowned Wild Card gym will show tomorrow night.

“Tamuka has been out to the Wild Card gym and sparred with some of their world champions,” Mayo said.

“He is a class act this is just the beginning for him, he can go a long way.

“I’m not sure if he did manage to work with Freddie Roach himself, but being around that environment is unbelievable.”

Also on the bill on tomorrow night is Gloucester middleweight Wayne Ingram who faces Mike Byles from Warwick, as well as unbeaten light-welterweight Thomas Jarvis who tackles Trowbridge’s Dan Carr.

“The whole card is good,” Mayo said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

The public weigh-in for Young-Tchoffo, Bennett-Keane and Pigford-Vari will be held at the Asiana restaurant in Old Town this evening 7pm.
