SWINDON captain Liam Tucker was left to rue yet another disappointing batting display as they slumped to a 74-run defeat at home to Gloucester City Winget.

The County Ground skipper had called for his top order show a vast improvement following their loss at Warminster the previous weekend.

However, after dismissing the visitors for 223, a total that Tucker felt was a few too many, Swindon were bowled out for 149 in just little more than 40 overs.

The defeat to Gloucester has left Swindon sitting in sixth place in the Glos/Wilts Division.

Adam Tribbick lead the way for the hosts with 44, while Tucker himself struck 25, but four of the top seven failed to get into double figures.

“It was pretty disappointing,” Tucker said. “We didn’t have any serious contributions apart from Adam hitting 40-odd.

“We need to start spending more time in the middle. We need the top order practicing hitting as many balls as we can.”

Having won the toss and elected to bowl, Tucker could only watch on as Scott Montgomery punished any bad balls on his way to 85, which included nine fours and a six, before he was caught and bowled by Mike Wilson.

“We were OK (in the field),” Tucker said. “I thought that 223 was probably a few too many.

“They batted well, their number three (Montgomery) put away any bad balls that came his way.

“We were always going to bowl first though. It was damp, the covers had been on and we had a bit of rain in the morning.

“I felt that if there was going to be anything in the pitch it was going to first up.”

After suffering back-to-back defeats, Swindon face an even tougher test on Saturday when they visit league-leaders Lechlade, who eased to a 69-run success at Chipping Sodbury.
