SWINDON’S darts players enjoyed a good weekend in Coventry.

Dennis Smith, Johnny Haines and Chris Aubrey all started the weekend in style at the Ricoh Arena as they each won three games to qualify for the European Darts Open next month, and backed up their success by picking prize money in the two Players Championship events which followed.

Smith put in the best display, picking up £1,000 on Saturday as he reached round four before losing to Terry Temple, before his run was ended by world champion Michael van Gerwen yesterday in round two, earning him another £250.

Haines picked up £250 on both days, losing to Andy Hamilton and then Dean Winstanley in the second round on either day, while Chris Aubrey earned the same amount by reaching round two yesterday.

John Newland was also competing, but failed to pick up any money on either day.
