Purton skipper calls for more consistency

PURTON captain Elliot Hill has called on his side to show more consistency following their seven wicket home loss to Marshfield.

Hill’s men went into the match on the back of their fine 133-run success at bottom side Nationwide House the previous weekend.

But back on their own wicket, Purton were left to rue a mid-order collapse against Marshfield.

Having reached 93-4 following a good start from Deepak Ramani, Purton quickly found themselves struggling at 105-7.

Adam Clatworthy and Tom Fullalove rebuild the innings slightly, but Purton were dismissed for 164.

Marshfield secured success with more than 16 overs to spare as Will Pascali fired an unbeaten 57.

“That was probably the first time this season we have been completely out played,” Hill said.

“In our other matches which we have lost they were close matches, but Marshfield played extremely.”

Having won promotion from the Wiltshire League, Purton’s skipper that there is plenty of room for improvement.

“Last week we scored 230 on a flat wicket with a slow outfield, this week at home on a reasonable deck we were bowled out for 160-odd,” Hill said.

“We need to be more consistent, last season we dominated the division we were in and this year we are finding our feet.

“But that can be a good thing, we know that we can improve and start to look up the table.”

Hill refused to blame the step up for their inconsistency this term as they will look to bounce back against Great Bedwyn at the weekend.

“The good thing about the squad is that is very ambitous and hungry for success,” Hill said.

“I know that we have got a few new faces from last year, but we are all going to have to put more effort in.”
