GLOS/WILTS: Swindon defeat was Lechlade's wake-up call

Swindon Advertiser: Luke Sellars Luke Sellars

LECHLADE will be determined to bounce back to winning ways following their shock nine-wicket home defeat to Swindon in the Glos/Wilts Division.

The Manor Ground side are currently second in the table and travel to bottom club Chippenham this weekend with a near full strength side with the return of all-rounder Paul Godding and wicket keeper Sam Burdock to the team.

However, Asanka Vithanage will be missing as he hasn’t recovered sufficiently enough from the head injury sustained in last Saturday’s clash with Swindon.

Lechlade will not only be looking for a return to winning ways but also a return to the top of the division that they had led from the start of the season until last week.

Lechlade coach Luke Sellers says that this week’s training has been very committed with everyone working very hard.

He added: “Last Saturday’s result hopefully has been a wake-up call for us.

“Not wanting to take anything away from Swindon who played very well and fully deserved their win I think some complacency had crept into our attitude and at this level there is no place for it as there are some very capable teams in this division as we saw last week.”

Captain Joe Breet said: “The boys were all fairly dejected after the Swindon game. We have all had a good talk about things and everyone is determined to bounce back and raise their games to the levels we know we are all capable of.

“The work ethic at training this week was very good and spirts were high.”

Breet will be hoping for a quick return to form of his batting unit after their recent performances. He will also be looking for a big win that will see them return to the top of the division overturning current division leaders Rockhampton’s slim one point lead.
