Gustafsson's consistency frustrations

Swindon Advertiser: Simon Gustafsson Simon Gustafsson

SIMON Gustafsson was once again frustrated by his own performance despite scoring nine in the Robins’ surprise victory at Leicester.

The Swede started the meeting in superb form, winning his first two outings before running a second in his third, but ended the meeting poorly with only one point from his final two rides which cost him a place in heat 15.

Last time out Gustafsson was unbeaten in his four rides against Wolves before finishing at the back in his fifth, and while he was able to take positives from his start against Leicester, he was once again unhappy with how things finished.

“I looked at the programme a bit into the meeting and saw we were up by 10 which was a bit of a surprise, and it’s good we went on to win,” he said.

“I started well and I really had a good one, so we all have to be really pleased.

“I’m pleased with my score and the track was really nice, but I’m not pleased with how I finished off the meeting. When I was gating the track was good and when I wasn’t it wasn’t that much fun.

“It’s different when you start a meeting off badly and carry on badly all the way through, but when you start off well like I did and then things go bad it can be really frustrating.

“I was beating their good riders and getting good times, which was very positive, so you have to take those and build on this.”
