HIGHWORTH boss John Fisher says he thinks his side can make a push for the Hellenic Premier title this season.

The outspoken former Advertiser columnist has enjoyed his break but is relishing getting his players back in for pre-season training next Monday.

Highworth looked to be in the midsts of a promising campaign in the early months of 2014 but the after effects of the bad weather and struggles to get sides out saw their season dwindle away.

Fisher had been quite disheartened to see the Worthians’ challenge fade and considered his future as manager at the end of last season but now says he is hopeful of a positive 2014/15.

“I’ve been quite enjoying the break but we’re back on Monday, it’s all systems go from Monday,” Fisher told the Advertiser.

“We’re looking at bringing in two defenders and two forwards and possibly a midfielder to bolster the squad really, and hoping the lads come back from last season.

“No one’s said they aren’t coming back. We’ll lose a few, you always do, but I won’t know until Monday if they turn up. That’s the only way I’ll know, they won’t tell me, they just won’t show up.

“It’s looking very positive truthfully, I think we should have a decent squad. Towards the end of last season we were struggling every week for a side. We knew who was unreliable and who was there week-in-week-out, the lads also know who they are, I don’t need to name any names.

“We need players to commit to Saturday and Tuesday. That’s why we’re moving to get those players in. I believe, knowing the league, with those four or five additions, we could go close, I’ve been about long enough to know what it’s all about.”

Elsewhere in the Hellenic League new manager Paul Braithwaite takes his first pre-season training session at Wootton Bassett tonight. He took over from Jeff Roberts who left the club by mutual consent at the end of last season.
