Shrivenham bid for three in a row
5:30am Friday 27th June 2014 in Sport
SHRIVENHAM travel to struggling Charlbury tomorrow hoping for a third successive league victory in OCA Division One, writes James Harris.
The visitors, who in recent weeks have seen an upturn in fortune in the batting department will be hoping to continue their fine form on a ground they amassed 373 last season to beat their by 138 runs.
Charlbury, who currently sit one place above the relegation zone, are without a win since mid-May but Shrivenham captain Alex Bowles has ignored their opponent’s recent form and called on his side to remain disciplined in another must-win game.
“Charlbury have struggled this season, but will be no pushovers at the weekend,” he said.
“They have been in Division One for as long as I can remember and finished fourth last year, so we’re fully aware that it will be a tough test.
“Yet I do stand by that if we turn up and perform as we should, I fully expect us to get the victory.”
Bowles, who is facing a potential selection headache with a number of regular first teamers unavailable at the weekend, is still confident that his side will be able to maintain their batting standards and complete a third victory in as many weeks.
“We are missing a few, but I still expect our top order to bat with the same confidence they’ve shown in the past couple of games,” he said.
“Our bowlers are unchanged though, so I will be hoping that this weekend can be where we start to string together some good bowling and fielding performances.”
