SWINDON TOWN: Branco pens new Town deal

Swindon Advertiser: Raphael Rossi Branco has agreed a new, one-year deal with Swindon Town Raphael Rossi Branco has agreed a new, one-year deal with Swindon Town

RAPHAEL Rossi Branco has agreed a new, one-year contract at Swindon Town, manager Mark Cooper has revealed.

Branco was offered fresh terms by the Robins at the end of last season, after proving his worth following his summer arrival from Whitehawk and, with Swindon returning for pre-season training today, news has filtered through of the Brazilian's deal.

Manager Mark Cooper told FLIC Wiltshire: "We managed to find Raffa on Copacabana beach, so somebody has tracked him down."

However, Troy Archibald-Henville is extremely unlikely to be a Town player next season, having not replied to the club's offer of a new contract.

The Advertiser revealed earlier this month how the centre-back is being offered out to clubs in League One and League Two and Cooper said: "The Troy deal is dead more or less."

No big surprises here but good to get some team news updates. I rate Branco but only offering a year deal suggests he will be back-up/utility defender again this year.

Southampton's overachievers all look to be on their way out for around a collective 100 million - so I reckon young Stephens will likely as not be thrown into the mix......and quite right too....if there is a model we should try to emulate we shouldn't look much farther afield than St. Mary's. Perhaps they have a few others on the treadmill we can give some playing time too....a la Bale, Walcott, Shaw, Rodriguez, Lallana

You obviously didn't see him last season! Still never mind with Wilma up front and Christ the Redeemer at the back we'll be a force to be reckoned with eh! More like a spent force already I reckon. We should go the whole hog and get Joan back from Hibs - she did a good job there helping them win relegation!

Happy that Branco has re-signed I agree he's an OK back-up at right back or centre back, and a trier too.

Not sure that Stephens will be featuring for Saints, although Koeman will want to take a look which means we won't be getting him for some time yet, should we get him of course.

I suppose with Troy there's bound to be a club that will take a punt and offer him a 'guaranteed' contract not a pay as you play. He would have impressed many from L1 I expect one will go for him, wouldn't be surprised to see City take a chance he was outstanding against them and they could afford a risk with their backing.

Brilliant to read the posts on this site. So many fans of Swindon Town FC being positive about the club regardless of the on going court case. What a surprise the team succeeds. Many candidates for "Grumpy Old Men" Christmas specials in the future.

Thank you Raffa (or should I call him a feminine name) for showing faith which I return. I do enjoy being positive.

Oxon, as ever it's just a frank exchange of views about what's happening at the club. Branco is not a bad footballer when he concentrates on playing football and not play-acting, but he's no superstar. Are we all supposed to do cartwheels of delight every time a player signs or re-signs for the club? If it was Jack Stephens signing, it might be a different matter.

You thought we should all be "positive" about Jed McCrory, despite the fact that he was lying blatantly to the fans at every opportunity. If Power hadn't stepped in and sacked him I believe there's every chance that he would have wrecked the club. Perhaps we'll hear more on that today.

A bit of healthy debate, whether it's about our players or the running of the club, never comes amiss.

Oxon methinks you take things far too seriously on here sometimes. I guess you are alluding to me perhaps with your comments about pseudonyms for players as it was me who christened Wilma & Joan. You are entitled to say that's negative and in Branco's case it's my way of saying that I don't think he's any great shakes. He's certainly not a Stephens and nowhere near a Fridge or a OoohhST defender and IMO only marginally better than Hall or Ward -aka the Chuckle Bros. I can see Wes (if he's still here) having kittens if Branco is to be relied upon as our main central defender. Cooper and Power's ( should he prevail) first job should be to find a decent replacement for Troy.
