MONEY is available and a centre-half and striker have been put at the top of Lee Power’s wanted list after the Swindon Town chief set out his vision for the club yesterday.

After finally seeing off the final of Jed McCrory’s claws for control in the High Court, Power, alongside club director Sangita Shah, was able to announce his hopes for the summer and season ahead.

In a wide-reaching interview he touched upon the club’s future, his aims, the money available for players, his plans with manager Mark Cooper, Nile Ranger’s departure and Massimo Luongo’s future.

On new players, he said: “Everyone’s aware that the spine of the team’s important. We’ve got the best goalkeeper in the league, we’re very light in the centre-half department and that’s what we’ve been working on.

“We’ve got one of the strongest midfields in the league and then up top we might need to look at re-juggling that because people get stale and they go in and out of form, but we’re pleased Willo’s (Williams) back.

“We’ve got people up there that we feel can cause people problems, but if the right one comes along, with losing Ranger, who knows.

“It needs to be for the right price and it needs to be the right person, and we’ve all learnt - the right character.

“It’s a team game. If we were fortunate to find someone of Ranger’s talent for the money, but obviously it come with issues, we probably wouldn’t go down that route.”

The former Newcastle United forward is one of those to have come off the wage bill since the last game of the season, with Dany N’Guessan, Jay McEveley and Alan Navarro other notable cuts.

Power is keen to avoid jeopardising the club’s future and has poured cold water on any suggestion he might overstretch his resources in the hope of a quickfire promotion.

“We can bring them in,” he said. “There’s obviously one or two we’ve still got that are on too much money for Swindon Town, but unfortunately they’re contracted so if they stay, for whatever reason, then obviously they’ll be paid like they were last year.

“If one or two of those were to move on it shores up other funds, but I think the road that we’re going down, if we haven’t got the money I won’t be spending it because I just believe that’s the only way to run a business.

“The supporters might not be pleased with that. We will use the loan market.

“We will loan players from Premier League teams, but they will be a variety of teams and I will do everything I can to get the best players to Swindon on a fraction of the price.”

The stand-out loan signing from last year, Alex Pritchard, remains a player the majority of fans hold close to their hearts, who would love to see him return to the County Ground next season.

Power said he was interested in that prospect, but felt it was highly unlikely, given the interest from higher up the football pyramid.

“If we could, but I think that’s the very unlikely to happen. One thing Pritch will say is he was fantastic for us, but we were fantastic for him,” said Power.

“He’s gone from obscurity at Spurs to playing in their last game of the season. That’s how we can benefit young players coming to us from Premier League teams.

“The benefit we get is having a player like that for a season and someone that we can afford. That’s the model we will be trying to use along with some great players of our own. We are looking at one or two other gems.

“People would like to say it was a young team last year that never really played a full season. They have now so we’re looking for them to improve and move forward and we expect to be competing next season.”

One man who far from managed to play a full season for the Robins in 2013/14, was controversial forward Nile Ranger, who agreed to terminate his contract earlier this year.

He was a man who regularly impressed on the pitch, according to Power, but one who took too much nurturing and attention.

“It’s a difficult one to sum up. He’s a fantastic player. He’s someone that I’ve had Championshp chairmen ring me up and ask about because they know his ability, but he has different issues as a lad,” he said.

“We started off by calling him a loveable rogue, but Mark has to spend his time on a group of players, not just one. And unfortunately he just used up too much of our time. That’s the nicest way to put it.”

Power also confirmed the club was waiting to hear back from Troy Archibald-Henville’s representatives on the pay-as-you-play deal offered to him, but it looked likely he would depart.

I am so glad that Lee Power is still Chairman. Level headed and realistic and planning to operate within our means. Can you imagine what Jed would have been saying in this interview if he had won? Now it's up to us to support Lee by buying the tickets and turning up for matches.

Spot on.
We were spoilt with the Black fortune but it is what it is and we have to cut our cloth accordingly.
Let's get behind and do what we do best that is supporting.

I shudder to think if the yellow three wheeler was in the car park this Morning.

smirg kcab - no change with you then still a D*** as ever. Do you support the club or not as all you ever do is slag everything and everyone off at the club go back and support your S***** team in yellow and blue up the road.
People on here that slag Power off dont know the first thing about him the guy has put his money into the club and wants to succeed here so everyone should be behind him. I will be renewing my season ticket today and hopefully every one else who has been holding back will now buy as well.
Would like to stephens back with another centre back added as well as looks like Troy could be off to Carlisle as someone else has said what we paid for him and what we have had in return leaves a bit of a bad taste and Troy needs to understand he is injury prone and is a risk and really owes this club as we were tucked right up by Exeter. I understand from his point of view he wouldnt want a pay as play contract but if he was confident his injury was ok now he would accept it so to me not accepting it probably means it could happen again and hes not confident it wont. Its a shame as he is a very good player and made such a difference to us at the back. Still cant believe Hall has gone to Birmingham. Lets hope Troy changes his mind and decides to stay but looks unlikely.
Im sure Power has been working on other targets while this case has been going on and July is always the month when they start to come in so lets see what we get get in the next few weeks.

If anyone from the media reads this and wants to suggest it to Power please do
.
There are 2 things I would like to see Power do now
.
1 - he said ST tickets stalled to only 100 last month. Let's get these going again by re-offering the early bird deal - fans are much more likely to come back at the lower price - also won't cost much to compensate the 100 sold at the higher price
.
Better to "lose" a few thousand now in lower prices but have people signed up which could mean they are here for years to come
.
2 - fans representation!
.
Power has talked about our club and he is only a steward and we will be here long after him - so let us have a say
.
What I would suggest is merge all the supporters bodies into one and sell 10-15% to that new formed Supporters Body
.
The body then raises money to buy the shares selling shares in itself
.
So if people want more say - they buy more shares - like any business
.
The board of this body will be elected by the shareholders and the chair would represent the fans on the actual board
.
Power then gets some of his £2m back now as he would sell his shares to the body
.
We have 5000 ST holders - each of them but £100 of shares in the body and we have £500k raised
.
Plus there are lots more who don't have ST but would sign up - so either cost per person goes down or more is raised - with excess going on players etc

LR, your first point is a good one. Makes economic sense as well being a morale booster for the fans. Although I respect the intentions of your second point, I think it's pie in the sky to think we'll ever have true supporter representation in the decision making process. The only way that would ever happen is if a supporters' body was ale to buy a majority shareholding - and that's never going to happen if we want outside investment. Anyone who pays the piper will want to call the tune. He/she is not going to want interference from fans in the boardroom. In short, yes we can help to fund the club (supporters do that anyway) but the only way any of us will get to have an effective say is by winning the lottery and sticking a few million in.

Den - lets not forget that Power would still own 85-90% of the club - so would still rule the roost and could still do what ever he wanted
.
The idea would be simply to get fans buy in -that doesn't mean they have to be involved in every board meeting and every decision
.
It could simply be involving fans in aspects which directly impact them - such as choosing the kit, setting ticket prices, putting forward suggestions like books of tickets, improvements to food and drink etc - stuff which if got right could boost coffers for the club
.
Also if Power did get outside investment - it could be split 45-45-10
.
Then in a case of deadlock the fans could play a role in deteriming how the club moves forward!

Fair enough LR. Your last point is a definite non-starter though. If something like 45/45/10 holdings did happen, I'm sure the two main shareholders would never allow the 10% to hold the balance of power. The 10% would surely have restricted voting rights. But I think you may have had tongue in cheek with that one!

Firstly I am glad that Power kept the club, he does own it and the other bunch enough has been said already about them.

However you look at it, gonna be a tough year this year, we dont have a big enough squad, we overplay on the pitch and some big teams with much bigger budgets will be pushing for promotion this year.

Still I have got my Season Tickets and will be there every game supporting the players...

Hope we can get a decent fitness coach this year, last year the team weren't fit enough and didn't train hard enough, so maybe Cooper needs help in that area.

Totally pointless buying shares unless the supporters have the controlling interest from day one. Otherwise you end up with the Andrew Black situation in that he made a share issue to himself and effectively devalued all other shares to worthless value, wiping out Jeremy Wray and Andrew Fitton's holdings to take control of 99% of the club, which allowed him to sell the club to McCrory and co. Other innocent shareholders, including the Trust, lost £000s as a result. 100% legal.

You can get around that easily - by having a legal agreement that every right issue the new supporters body has the option to maintain its holding at 10%
.
If it can't afford to buy it then it would go down - but at least the option would always be there to maintain that level
.
Then at any future rights issue it would always have an option to increase it back up to the agreed level - 10% or whatever was originally sold
.
Only way an owner could then dilute it to nothing would be always to pump millions in to ensure the supporters can't ever afford their portion to get to 10% - but surely that is good for STFC as it would mean millions in equity - not loans!

Did they really lose £000s? Were the shares actually worth anything? The fact that Black gave the club away suggests not. I wouldn't have thought anyone puts equity into a lower division football club expecting to get it back. 99% of eff all is eff all. I suppose Black ended up with effectively complete control of the club because he was the one keeping it afloat, which seems fair enough.

Im sure Power has been working on other targets while this case has been going on and July is always the month when they start to come in so lets see what we get get in the next few weeks.[/p][/quote]Thing is Legod he will insist along with a few others that he is fishing or just a wum, but the truth is as you put it always slagging the club and fellow fans off, especially if you're not in agreement with his views. The bloke is a plank. I second your shout of do one up to the Kasshat. eyesrightskinbacktight

At the time of posting Grim's minus votes totalled 84. So that's 84 readers who A) can't see through his vicious, but brilliant, tongue in cheek sacasm & B) don't have the nous to post a response unless it's abusive and calls him an Oxford fan.

For me long may he continue to post his anarchic and acerbic wit - his analogy of alleged match fixing at the CG with that of Cameroon at the World Cup - absolutely priceless!

And to the minus muppets lighten up for goodness sake take a chill pill and don't get so wound up by any form of sarcastic comment - it doesn't mean Grim or me or anyone else who has a pop isn't a genuine Town fan - we just like to spice things up on here to get a reaction sometimes - and let's be realistic - it works eh if -84 is anything to go by.
Wilma to amaze us all by bagging 5 goals next season 😜
