SWINDON TOWN: Town announce pre-season schedule

Swindon Advertiser: Swindon Town have released their pre-season schedule Swindon Town have released their pre-season schedule

SWINDON Town have announced their full pre-season friendly schedule, with a clash against Leeds United the most recent addition.

The Robins are due to face Leeds - managed by former Swindon man Dave Hockaday - at the County Ground on Tuesday, July 29. Kick-off is scheduled for 7.45pm.

Last month, Charlton Athletic announced that they would be traveling to Wiltshire for a friendly on Wednesday, July 30 but that meeting does not feature on Swindon's official fixture list.

A spokesman for Town told the Advertiser this afternoon: "We never announced it as a friendly."

Ticket details for the clash with Leeds will be announced in due course.

Swindon's full pre-season schedule:

Friday, July 11 - Yate Town (a), 7.30pm

Saturday, July 12 - Swindon Supermarine (a), 3pm

Tuesday, July 15 - Petersfield (a), 7.45pm

Thursday, July 17 - Eastleigh (a), 7pm

Monday, July 21 Southampton (h), 7.45pm

Thursday, July 24 - Feltham (a), 7.45pm

Tuesday, July 29 - Leeds United (h), 7.45pm

  • Meanwhile, the Town under 18 side are due to face two local sides as they begin their preparations for the new season.

The next generation of Robins talent will travel to Shrivenham tomorrow night and then face Fairford Town at Cinder Lane on Tuesday, July 15, with free entry available for the game against Fairford.

We could be playing Barca or Barking - friendlies are meaningless and at £15 a pop if the Soton game is a yardstick my dosh is staying in the old skyrocket!

Saints and Leeds (& Charlton) is impressive in my book. All will stand as solid tests of MC's first true squad. Well done to the club from me!

Perhaps a Leeds loanee is also on the way (?) ......hot on the heels of Jack Stephens ;-)

Hopefully the Charlton game is now off, don't want a repeat of last seasons Spurs then Birmingham on consecutive nights.

Is it true that the Leeds new owner won't let Hockaday play Paddy Kenny as he was born on the 17th and the owner has a phobia about the number 17?

They got it wrong, he's 23 and looks to be a very shrewd acquisition.........
......... (This from forest green rovers website)

Defender
Rated as one of the best defenders outside the Football League, Jamie Turley’s fantastic performances in his first season at Forest Green earned him international recognition with call ups in to the England C team.

He raised the bar further in 2012-13, captaining England C to the final of the International Challenge Trophy where they went down narrowly 1-0 to Turkey.

Jamie began his career with Football League side Wycombe Wanderers but without making a senior appearance he moved into the non-league game, linking up with Salisbury City.

Despite his young age, Jamie impressed hugely in non-league football’s top flight with Salisbury but was part of the Whites team that were demoted two divisions over issues arising from their entry into administration.

He stayed loyal to Salisbury and helped the Wiltshire club to promotion through the Southern Premier Division play offs with a call from Forest Green soon to follow.

He signed a two year deal at The New Lawn in June 2011 and impressive performances saw it extended until the end of the 2013-14 season whilst forming a formidable central defensive partnership with fellow England C international Eddie Oshodi.

In February 2013 Jamie was named England 'C' Player of the Year at the inaugural FA England Awards unfolded at St. George's Park.

I don't normally do friendlies but due to the financial position of the club and to support Lee I have bought my saints tickets & persuaded two others to come along as well. I think instead of moaning about the price, if you can afford it get out there & support the players, Lee & the club & think how lucky we are to have a club to support!

same here, I'll be taking 3 + 2 juniors, this is a top friendly to test our metal. Shame one or two won't be there for the sake of a fiver. Good news for those that have not yet applied for a ST there will be a discount starting tomorrow.
