PAUL Davies starred with the bat as Swindon won their Premier One 2nd XI clash against Keynsham with three balls to spare.

Davies hit a composed, unbeaten 57, which included three boundaries, as Swindon chased down their target of 203 with four wickets and three balls remaining.

Earlier, Dean Williamson had impressed in taking 3-30 from seven overs with the ball for the visitors, as Keynsham’s top order all got starts without going on to make big individual scores.

In reply, Swindon were given a solid foundation thanks to Williamson’s 24 and 38 from Sean Parker, while John Baden hit two sixes in his 44 before Davies saw the County Ground outfit home.

In Premier Two 2nd XI, Goatacre racked up 277-7 from their 45 overs but were helpless to prevent Gloucester City Winget reaching their target for the loss of just four wickets inside 44 overs.

Nationwide House were edged out by Calne in a close game in Wiltshire 2nd XI Division.

A brisk 51 from Adam Gordge, which featured eight boundaries, elevated Nationwide to 162 all out and, but for Calne’s Henry Lee, that total would have been more than enough for victory.

However, having opened the batting, Lee dug in for 75 as none of the rest of the top seven got past five. Despite Calne recording five ducks between their batting line-up, the hosts scraped home thanks to an unbeaten 29 from number 10 Robin Batson. Gordge added a haul of 3-27 to his earlier half-century, while Marc Yates picked up 3-40.

Elsewhere in the division, Lechlade destroyed Burbage & Easton Royal by eight wickets.

Tristan Hawkes took 4-20 and Sam Barnett 4-40, as Lechlade tore the Burbage batting line-up apart.

Only Nick Patel, with 34, provided any kind of resistance for the visitors, as they were dismissed for 88 in a little more than 20 overs.

In reply, Freddie Martin was assured with the bat as he hit 10 fours in his unbeaten 52 to help guide Lechlade home with almost 30 overs to spare.

Finally, Purton beat Westbury & District by 42 runs away from home. Dave Allen provided the backdrop to Purton’s total of 248-7, with a classy 88, while the visitors’ bowlers restricted their hosts to just 206-6 in reply.
