SWINDON TOWN: Cooper: Pompey move will do Storey 'world of good'

SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper feels Miles Storey's loan move to Portsmouth will do the striker "a world of good".

Storey completed his season-long switch to Fratton Park this morning, ending Pompey's two-month pursuit of the player, and will now join up with the League Two club for pre-season training.

With Town owner Lee Power revealing on Monday that the forward has another year to run on his current contract in Wiltshire, keeping him at the County Ground until the summer of 2016, Cooper is hoping to reap the benefits of Storey's extended stay on the south coast.

"I think he knows he’ll be playing regularly. He’ll be playing for a big club in a league below in front of a big crowd every week. It gives him an opportunity to get into a rhythm and score some goals and I think it will do him a world of good," he said.

“I think he can score more goals, he’s still got to get that consistency in holding the ball up. It’s not all about running in behind people all the time. We are working with him but it’s about that ability to hold the ball up."

I just hope Ryan Harley turns up this season and stops just passing the ball sideways. Only 17 players atm.

Fans need to get real at the moment Storey is a potential good prospect and is still learning the game. Hes not a 90 minute player and he is best as an impact player for the last 10-15 minutes when players start to tire as he does have good pace. He is not the finished article. Last season he played in the conference for salisbury and now he is stepping up again to L2 and maybe he will be a regular for us next season. I do think however that Pompey will get promoted this season and with their good crowds they get i wouldnt be surprised if he impresses they put an offer in for him.
i would imagine also letting him go also frees up some salary for players we have lined up to come in and i would expect some movement in the next couple of weeks.
Good luck Miles Storey.

Any chance we can get a fitness coach in please, love him or HATE him, Cooper didn't appear to know how to get the team fit last year and needs help with it....

He needs games and if he's not ready for us then a season in league 2 will help. Look at the players we had on loan. We certainly helped their careers (well most of them).

It's not all about holding the ball up and playing keep ball in the middle of the park. That said Ranger and Smith held the ball up better last year and you can see what is missing from his game. Although he has an eye for goal and on last years form we need that, hope it works out for him he seems a good genuine lad

agree fitness coach is a must and a striker coach to teach smith how to hold a ball up and improve his first touch. I hope cooper has more than one plan this season on the pitch.

Good luck to Miles, I'm not convinced thus far and quite honestly he is no longer a young unknown and full of dazzling potential, he is a known quantity. Most really good players, think Rogers, Summerbee, Trollope, Rideout et al, were fixtures in the team well before 20.

Stars shine young.

He isn't that special and nor does the team's tactical organisation play to his strengths. Can't see him suddenly bursting onto the scene but hope I'm wrong; we could do with a star forward. Mind you, I suppose we still have Andy Williams ....................

Why don't you go and talk to the coaches about fitness and how it is measured.. I think you will be surprised at the detail that goes into getting players fit and staying that way, rather than sniping a comment, based at best, on your annecdotal evidence because you don't think MC is doing a good job

The players were not fit last season , just look back to PDC days or even Lou macari the players we're fit . Last season they were lazy and ran out of steam .
