SWINDON Town have taken the captain of the Sierra Leone national side on trial, while a former West Brom midfielder is also training with the Robins this week.

Ibrahim Kargbo and Elikem Amenku will both feature in the pre-season clash at Yate Town tonight, as well as the trip to Swindon Supermarine tomorrow, as they look to earn a contract in Wiltshire.

Kargbo is a defensive midfielder who has won 36 caps for his country and can boast having played in Belgium, the Netherlands and Turkey. Most recently, the 32-year-old was on the books of RWDM Brussels, while he has also won the Azerbaijani Cup with Baku FC.

Amenku was released by the Baggies at the end of last season.

A former England age group international, the central midfielder has yet to play a professional game and at 19 years old is in search of a new club.

The pair join Khalil Lambin and Jonathan Vandesompele Ladid as trialists at Liddington, as manager Mark Cooper looks to uncover another diamond in the rough.

Cooper said: “With the way we are, that’s what we do.

“We try to pick little nuggets up and polish them up.

“They’ve trained this week and done fine.”

Meanwhile, Town striker Miles Storey yesterday completed his long-protracted move to Portsmouth, as predicted in Thursday’s Advertiser.

Pompey finally ended their two-month pursuit of the player by pinning him down to a season-long loan at Fratton Park, with manager Andy Awford delighted with the capture.

Awford said: “Miles has been a target for us since the end of last season and I'm delighted that he's joined us. I watched him play on a few occasions last season and I believe that he'll add an extra dimension to our attacking options.

“We're very grateful to Swindon for letting him come to Fratton Park for the season.”
