SWINDON Town have beaten non-league side Yate Town 2-0 in their opening pre-season friendly this evening.

Trialist Celvin Kalinga opened the scoring as he converted Connor Waldon’s cross midway through the second half, before Massimo Luongo doubled the lead as he burst into the box to sweep home an effort with what was almost the final kick of the game.

Striker Andy Williams made a successful return from the knee ligament injury which ended his season-long loan at Yeovil last term, and looked bright during his 45 minutes of action as he looked to get in behind the Yate backline at every opportunity.

Elikem Amenku, Jonathan Vendesompele, Khalil Ladid and Ibrahim Kargbo were also given chances to impress in the opening period, with the latter the pick of the bunch with a calm assured performance in the middle of midfield. Vendesompele and Samsung Win a Pro winner Jose Antonio looked solid at the back during the first 45 minutes, before wholesale changes at the break, with Raphael Branco, Curtis Da Costa and Yaser Kasim largely untroubled in the second.

Vendesompele left the field before the break with a facial injury suffered in a collision with home keeper Martin Horsell, but otherwise Town have no fitness concerns heading into tomorrow’s clash with Swindon Supermarine.
