SWINDON TOWN: Ward and Harley not part of Cooper's plans
DARREN Ward and Ryan Harley’s careers at Swindon Town could be coming to an end after manager Mark Cooper admitted he has no imminent plans to involve the pair in his first-team squad.
The duo were absent for tonight's 2-0 pre-season victory away at Yate, although they have been training with the squad, but Cooper revealed neither will see gametime today at Swindon Supermarine and are unlikely to be involved at all in the near future.
Former captain Ward was dropped from Cooper’s side following a poor display in the 4-1 loss to Wolves on March 11, and hasn’t appeared since, and the Town boss admitted there was a chance both he and Harley could be moving on.
“Darren and Ryan Harley weren’t involved in the squad,” he said.
“We’ve not involved them in the match squad, they are training with us but are not involved in our squad at the moment.”
When asked if the pair would be involved against Supermarine Cooper replied “no” and said “maybe” when asked by the Advertiser if the duo are looking for new clubs.
Cooper also dismissed reports linking Town with a move for young Newcastle striker Adam Campbell, with conversations thought to have taken place between representatives of the parties involved regarding a possible loan move for the teenager ahead of the new campaign.
“I don’t know anything about it,” Cooper said. “I think I know the player, I think he’s small and I think he’s quick but I honestly don’t know anything about where that’s come from.”
George Barker, Harry Agombar and Tijane Reis all missed last night’s match through injury, while Wes Foderingham was at the game but was not involved in favour of him getting 90 minutes against Marine tomorrow.
