PUPILS at Highworth Warneford School have enjoyed an impressive sporting year.

The biggest achievers were the school’s cheerleading squad, who came second in the national championships in Manchester last month, where they competed against the leading schools from across the country to eventually come away with the silver medal.

There was also success on the football pitch, with the year seven girls winning their league and the Wiltshire Cup, as they scored 118 goals and conceded only 18. The under 16 girls came second in their league, while the year eight boys won the Swindon schools indoor five-a-side competition. Both the year 10 and 11 teams reached Swindon schools finals, while the older age group made good progress in the cup.

On the netball court, the school’s teams performed well in all their competitions, as they secured three league wins, a second and a third in total.

Teams from Warneford also entered the Swindon Schools Games, while the year seven and eight tennis squad qualified for the Wiltshire Games.

Finally, the year sevens came third in the Swindon schools rugby tournament.

A school spokesperson said: “We are very proud of our sports teams this year. Staff and pupils have worked exceptionally hard to achieve such great results over the year. We thank all of our pupils that have shown us their commitment and the desire to win over the last season and hope this continues in the future. we are very excited about the opportunities from September.”
