SWINDON ended The Soggy Bottom Boys’ dominance of the North Wilts Hockey Club annual summer festival with victory in the men’s event at the weekend.

A host of teams from across the county took part, with male teams competing for the Henry Dennett Cup and the Len Evans Vase, enabling the ladies to compete for the Linden Senascall-Smith Trophy and the Haine & Smith Plate.

All the teams competed in the group stages on Saturday in all four competitions, before moving onto knockout competition on the Sunday for those in the Henry Dennett Cup and the Linden Senascall-Smith Trophy, with round robin games for the Len Evans Vase and the Haine & Smith Plate The Henry Dennett Cup final saw the winners for the last two years, The Soggy Bottom Boys, take on a youthful Swindon side. The match was played at a high tempo from the start with The Soggy Bottom Boys getting an early breakthrough to go 1-0 up.

Swindon responded by scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead, but had to defend well as their opponents pushed to try to find the equaliser.

With time running out, the Soggy Bottom Boys removed their keeper in search of there elusive leveller, but it wasn’t to be as their dominance of the competition ended.

The ladies Linden Senascall-Smith trophy was won by Swindon Swine's who beat the Bassett Beasts in a hard fought-final.

The Haine & Smith Plate found the sides of TBC (North Wilts) fighting in out with Zebedee's to see who would finish top, with the eventual decisive result allowing TBC (North Wilts) to win.

The Len Evans Vase saw the Longs Bar take the title following the final round of matches.
