SWINDON TOWN: Town reject offer for Nathan Thompson, say reports

Swindon Advertiser: Nathan Thompson has been attracting interest from Peterborough United Nathan Thompson has been attracting interest from Peterborough United

SWINDON Town have rejected a £200,000 bid from Peterborough United for Nathan Thompson, according to reports.

BBC Wiltshire have this morning suggested that Town have rebuffed an approach for the right-back from Posh, whose interest in the defender was revealed by the Advertiser last week.

A spokesman for the Robins was unable to comment on the report when contact by this paper.

Adver sources have said that no formal bid was submitted by Peterborough, though tentative enquiries are believed to have been made as the London Road outfit tried to ascertain how much Thompson would cost.

What an insult with that figure and why would he want to go to Peterborough anyway ok there chairman may have a bit of money but they are a small club with an over rated manager and smaller crowds than us if i was a player no way would i want to go to Peterborough to me it would not be a step up and Thompson is better than that.

Thinking about it - this is probably old news!
.
Cooper made the comment a while back that we would not sell to a rival for a couple of hundred thousand - then all of a sudden a report says an enquiry was made for a couple of hundred thousand
.
Still marker was laid down yesterday - our big stars are not for sale unless you will pay silly money - seems to me £1m will be needed for Wes, Mass and Nathan (each that is)
.
If we get that - then it should thanks lads and good luck

I think unless a club from a higher division comes in for Thompson he would be very silly to leave.

At the time being I dont think there is a club better set up for young players to come and develop there trade.

We have a proper footballing philosphy instead of attempting to bully other teams and hitting a long ball like the majority of the teams in our league. We have a manager and chairman who are patient with these players and willing to give them time to develop and improve, and we have a fairly good following for our level to help these players garner a better understanding of the pressure they'll be under when they do go to bigger clubs.

Everyone does have their price, but let's hope no means no, unlike the initial modest bid for Flint which only had to creep up a bit until no became yes.

Presumably Power as the money man was involved in those negotiations?

Just be thankful that Jed the Chancer never won the court case otherwise these 2 would have been gone by now.

£200k in this day and age for a young pretty experienced club captain is way below the going rate.In the current squad he is worth a lot more to us than market rate due to the lack of experience of the others around him so I would be telling the Posh to come back with a sensible offer that begins with a 5 or higher.

Don't think we can sell Nathan, gotta remember he's still our captain and I don't think there's anyone else that can fill his shoes! He's pivotal in our plans. If any players gonna take us into the Championship, it's him. NOT FOR SALE.

Luongo on the other hand, thought 600k was a little undervalue. I think I would take 850k/900k. And we could find a good replacement CM and a CB. Which we desperately need atm.

We have a manager and chairman who are patient with these players and willing to give them time to develop and improve, and we have a fairly good following for our level to help these players garner a better understanding of the pressure they'll be under when they do go to bigger clubs.
Agreed.. & from our point of view, as supporters we have to be patient as these youngsters find their feet, gain confidence & hopefully improve.
Booing them, shouting abuse or moaning about them here or on social networks will only have a negative effect on them.

We must expect that a mid-table position this year will be a major achievement. Indeed a bottom of the table struggle is more realistic.

But then it all depends on the asking price...
Cant be more than 150k san it
So we have just rejected £600k for Mass - but will sell the best keeper in the league for about the amount we paid for him - yep see that logic!

Slim to none!
Fair enough, but I'm not confident. This silence surrounding Wes is disquieting.
Wes is being sold every transfer window - yet here we are into our 5th and he is still here
.
Silence is there as people know he will cost a lot of money - and it will be way above the £150k Dazza reckons - I hope Wes doesn't read this as he would be insulted by that valuation!
.
Wes is very young in terms of keepers that I wouldn't be surprised if people are waiting for his contract to run down - try and get him on the cheap or even free if it expires

i cant quite believe nobody has come in for fodders.

clearly the best keeper in the league and thought for approx. 400-500k would be worth a cheeky offer from a championship club.
There's still plenty of time!
