JOHN Baden’s 66 was in vain for Swindon as they were beaten by 50 runs in Premier One 2nd XI.

Veteran Baden contributed more than a third of Swindon’s total of 186 all out in their run chase against Taunton Deane at the Convent Field, as the visitors fell well short.

Earlier, Conor Cleary and Harry Chevis had both taken three wickets in Taunton’s innings, which closed on 236-9 from their 50 overs. Swindon couldn’t get near their hosts in reply, with only Sean Parker and Dan Harris passing 20 apart from Baden.

In Premier Two 2nd XI, Goatacre kept pace with the leaders with a 128-run victory over Chard.

Jake Tillyer’s 96, coming from number six and including three big maximums, was the highlight of the Goatacre innings, while Dan Wiseman made 62 as the hosts reached 270 all out.

In reply, Connor Rafferty took 5-37 for the Goats, while only Stephen Dening got past 13 for Chard, as the visitors were dismissed for 142 in 28 overs.

In Wiltshire 2nd XI, Matthew Hyde’s 76 for Nationwide House couldn’t prevent the works unit from falling to a seven-wicket defeat to Great Bedwyn.

Hyde, batting at number one, struck 11 fours in his knock but House could only manage 166-8 from their 45 overs. Bedwyn went past their target with four overs remaining, as Phil Cheese top scored with an unbeaten 53.

Lechlade destroyed Devizes by 200 runs, dismissing their guests for 82 having reached 282-9 declared from 39.5 overs.

Meanwhile, Chris Newman, Tom Whittaker, David Allen and Kenley Thomas all got amongst the runs, as Purton chased down 200 to beat Calne by five wickets.
