TOWN goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is desperate to see his side kick off the new League One season with three points on Saturday.

Mark Cooper’s men open the book on their latest campaign with a home clash against Scunthorpe United and will be looking to fare better than in their season opener last term when they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Peterborough United.

Foderingham reckons that the Iron, who finished second in League Two last season, will be coming to the County Ground full of confidence but the Town stopper has no doubts over the galvanising effect an opening-day win would have on his side.

“Everyone’s raring to go. It’s been a long pre-season but everyone’s wanting to impress and everyone’s excited about the first game,” said Foderingham.

“We went down to an Army camp and had a bit of a different week there and we’ve had a mix of games as well but everyone’s really happy and pre-season has gone well.

“We can’t pay too much attention on the league table at the start and we’re just going to try and play our football and see where that takes us.

“A win at the start of the season helps to get the confidence flowing and kick-start your season.

“We want to start on a positive note and hopefully carry that through to the end.

“(Scunthorpe will) be eager and they’ll definitely be keen. Coming up from League Two, they’ll want to show that they can compete at this level, if not better.

“We’re expecting a tough test, we’re not going to take it lightly and we’re going to go out there, hopefully do the job, and get three points.”
