Well well well! I'd hardly got the words out of my mouth when I posted that I wondered what other bills had to be paid after the Plod bill fiasco and mentioned that the duff scoreboard and DR stand tannoy weren't working (probably because the bills hadn't been paid). LP and behold we now find out STFC face a bill of £28k to repair the sound system.
The more worrying scenario is of course that against Scunny they were actually in breach of their safety certificate because they were unable to broadcast information that would need to be imparted in an emergency.
Now call me an old sceptic (again) but if STFC can't find £30k for Plod how the hell can they find another £28k for the PA system. And the double whammy? They can't let fans sit in the Dr until it's fixed so they can't sell tickets. That means moving DR s/t holders elsewhere in the ground (sterile area in Arkells and spare non S/t seats, the bank and town end possibly)- I'd be dead chuffed -not! If I was moved to the bank or t/end.
So happy clappers and rose tinters what's next to come out of the woodwork? Like I said about the Plod bill if you think that's the only bill unpaid dream on(scoreboard?) after all that's only £60k we now know about eh?
But never mind now altogether ready? After 3 "if you're happy and you know it clap your hands, if you're happy ....da de dah"

There's not many clubs I really dislike but the Gills are right up there. I think it goes back to the first time I went there, 65 or 66, not sure which. The sheer awfulness of the place was only exceed by the awfulness of their fans who were the most biased I've ever had the misfortune to come across, and that's saying something!

At that time they had a reputation for boring and defensive football (what's changed). We dominated the game and, of course, lost 0-1 to a miss-hit shot that bobbled through lots of legs. The crowing of the locals was very hard to take.

Things were better in 69...because of our League Cup exploits we had lots of games in hand and we had them at home on a Tuesday night in February. They deployed every time-wasting tactic in the book, and more besides, in an effort to get a point. It was 0-0, the 90 minutes were up and we must have been in at least the 7th or 8th minute of what was then known as 'injury time' when Peter Noble (hero!) scored with an overhead kick at the Town End. Their players were incandescent with rage and we , of course, were particularly jubilant.

That evened up things a bit.

Stuart I'm not stirring I'm reporting facts! Same as I was with the plod story.
Seriously there's folk on here who really need to smell the coffee.
Having said all that really hope on the pitch the lads can bounce back - theres hardly a better 3points than beating the pikeys oh and City as well of course.

You haven't got a season ticket so you're unlikely to be moved.
This is true but they also won't be ale to sell me a matchday ticket unless I can sit in the Arkells it's bad enough watching from behind the goal at away games!

No there so can only go by Adver match synopsis. On that basis - first good to see Wilma on the scoresheet -yes really chaps! Second, any point at the pikeys place is avoid point.
Concerns - it appears we gave away two sloppy goals due to poor defence errors.
Once again it looks like our strike force was ineffective leaving aside Williams goal. Smith bagged 4 in two games and if you confine it to league it's 2 from 3 -not a bad return but I'd want him to now hit one against Crewe.
Thompson lucky to not get another yellow/red, Branco a bit dodgy?

Really hope Cooperman & Power can address the obvious problems, the quicker the better.
Be interested to hear a report from someone who was there to get their take.

LOL - the madcap laughs! Very good Oxon. Towards the end there I was getting the old Jug Band Blues and then ...... yippee!

Just delighted to get something out of this one, they certainly deserved it. I don't know why people think Mark Cooper needs to make excuses - why should he when our shots/corners/posses
sion show clearly that we were really going for it? Some people are never satisfied. I want to win every match too but when you've got a young team busting a gut and going all out how can anyone have a go, even if they lose? Cooper is doing a great job on almost no resources. Some people need to get real.

League 2 looks fantastic Oxon - I had already looked to see how badly the pox were doing and they are meeting my very low expectations of them! It gives you a nice warm feeling. COYMR

That was a good point considering we didnt make all the possession tell with goals in the first half. What was encouraging was we kept fighting to the very end. Hopefully we can get 3 points on Sat against Crewe with Thompson back. Thompson's driving runs out of midfield were missed sorely tonight, Hopefully Luongo is okay.

COYMR
Thumbs up :-)

I just look at what¨s going on at STFC and am concerned as to where the club will end up.
Mind you supported them since 1961 and yes there have been good times and Bad.At 71 I just feel for the fans (the hard core) who pay out every season. Fair play Port. I think everyone is concerned about the future but suspect we are not the only club finding it hard going. We can all play a part no matter how small but somehow get the feeling we need to get through this season.

Do we need to tighten up at the back as the stats suggest we have restricted the opponents well. Luck on their part ? Bad luck on ours ?

One thing for sure, IMO, the club and Lee needs our support.

Back to stats, the possession figures so far suggest we have a very talented group of youngsters. How many teams will dominate the ball the way we have done at Crawley and Gillingham. How many teams will force the Home team manager to play on the break and hope.

Sadly I will miss the next 3 matches but really looking forward to see them play again.

1 point out of 6 away is a poor return but have to say that was 1 more than I expected tonight a point. Congratulations to all on coming back to grab the draw. A special word for Andy Williams, who I believe is very much a confidence player. The goal might make him relax a bit.

One gripe though: Please Mark, stop droning on after games about what we should have got. Let the results speak for themselves. There are no pictures on the league table at the end of the season. It won't show that we dominated possession tonight and it won't show we got lucky for the second equaliser.

Very good result all things considered and definately shows a fighting character in a young squad. The problems at the back can be sorted. The forwards are scoring goals.

And the fact that the tannoy doesn't work in the DR is a welcome bonus.

A very good possession game away from home, their keeper made some very good saves before making one of the all time great fumbles to gift us the equaliser. As usual the passing was very slick and virtually the whole game played in the Gills half which of course made it difficult to break down.

To sum it up we were passing it quickly left to right about 30 yards from goal, work it through to the wingers, cross gets hooked clear, we collect and repeat.....

Sadly though it is as plain as day that none of our centre backs are strong enough to compete let alone win a physical battle against a big centre forward with a bit of nouse which led to mistakes and goals.

Kedwell looked a bang average big lad and chugged around the pitch, but eased the defenders out of the way as he liked, it was embarrassing. Whilst skilful and fairly pacy, our defence is as lightweight as I've seen and until this is rectified we will continue to concede sloppy goals. We badly need a Greer / Troy / even Ward, just someone who can stand his ground and mark the big lad!

Hello happy clapper. Perhaps you'd like to expand on your cave/furry animal comment as I'm afraid I don't get your mancunian wit.
Yes things on the pitch are going reasonably well to date but face facts we were lucky to get a point after two defensive gaafes and yes it can be sorted but only if LP gets his arse in gear and gets someone in. We still need another striker!
You make light of the tannoy problem but you should understand they can't use the stand until it's fixed = no revenue=more debt! So we've got £60k to find on reduced income - keep wearing the specs Manc.

Yes, the decision to let Troy go is looking nearly as bad as the Greer one and I hope it does not have the same consequences! Defensive blunders were the norm last season until the Troy/Stephens partnership came together. Turnbull may settle down to be an adequate replacement for one of them but Branco will not do for the other. Fact is we still only have five players that are good at this level and four of them are midfielders. Brad Smith should also prove to be OK with a few more games but that still leaves us threadbare in terms of quality. In the striking department we have nothing really. All that means we may continue to be a reasonable home side, based on pressure from our talented midfield but will continue to be a poor away side unable to cope with route one attacks. Hopefully LP can pull a couple of rabbits from the hat before deadline day to lift the quality levels a bit higher and give us at least a hope of progressing from last season.

You obviously aren't a Pink Floyd fan Jock. Mancrobin was carrying on the Floyd/Syd Barratt references. "Several species of small furry animals huddled together in a cave grooving with a Pict" from Ummagumma. It was very clever given your moniker.

I don't think any supporter can take any pleasure from seeing our club struggle to meet its bills but we can at least celebrate the fact that we aren't doing too bad for a penniless club with a very young team and a manager who seems to develop and motivate them extremely well. Take the dark specs off Jock - it isn't all gloom and doom.

We badly need a Greer / Troy / even Ward, just someone who can stand his ground and mark the big lad!
There seems to be a lot of sense in that Wilesy. I've not seem the team yet but the experience of last season and from reading reports so far, we do need an anchor man.

Unfortunately, I do not think that Wardy was playing that role any longer and hence his dropping. Also it was probably Flint when he was here who was that man and not Ward. Last season it was certainly Troy and he was great in that role. Trouble is, Troy is again injured (so good call Lee?) and Flint and Greer probably too expensive for most in this league.

Unless we have a stroke of luck in the transfer market (and Lee has been known to pull the rabbit out of the hat), we have to see if we can develop one the youngsters in that role. It didn't take Flint and Morrison that long.

Oh, for Frank Burrows.

Troy has not played yet for Carlisle, guess what,he's injured.
In my opinion 000 - RU good business to get shot of ,total sick note.

Only 5 players good enough for this level, what team are you watching ?
He's probably not watching. Yet another that is happy to come on here and moan about Power not putting any money in but not prepared to fork out for a ticket.

Laughable if it wasn't so sad.
Firstly, I am season ticket holder and a supporter since 1962. Secondly, I have been impressed with most of LP s signings on a shoestring but we are someway short of last seasons squad. Specifically, we have not replaced Troy, Pritchard, Ranger or Stephens with comparable quality so it is difficult to see us finishing as high as last season. As I said, I remain hopeful that LP can pull the rabbit out again but time us running out. I agree that MC is doing a good job with the material at his disposal and I am not one of those looking for a return to hoofball and head tennis that we have seen in the past. Three home games in a row should help to brighten the picture!

COYMR
Maybe you are right about the defense but we always seem likely to make an error at the wring time, cut them out and we are well on our way, but i suppose that's the joy of being in Division 3 with Division 3 players.

Just Ranger and Troy require replacing now in my view. Turnball is probably somewhere near on a par to Stephens - good on the deck, pacy, but not a man mountain like Troy.

Brad Smith's pace offers something different to Pritchard and I think actually suits our 3-5-2 better so I don't think we are worse off there. Pritchard was never the quickest and Byrne and Smith do inject some pace into the team which was lacking.

Tannoy story is very alarming Jock - could have terrible repercussions for the club. Such a shame that when we had a Board with money no advantage was taken. I usually try to be optimistic (until reality forces me to reassess) but this season is a very hard one to call. All we can be sure of is it will be full of ups and downs. We have a team that could win 6 - 0 one week and lose by the same margin the next. Exciting times ahead, lets hope we fly more often than we fall to earth.

Thanks for the constructive debate Wilesy, in complete contrast to the previous respondents! I don't think Turnbull will quite match the immaculate Stephens but it's early days. I don't see Brad as a replacement for Pritch, more for Jay Mac, but I agree that Byrne is much more effective on the right wing than at left back. If only we had a finisher!
